Atascosa Running Club
Join fellow runners in the Atascosa Running Club Social Fun Run every Wednesday. The next event is set for May 8.
They meet at 6:10 p.m. at “The Office Bar and Grill,” run to the Pleasanton River Park, around town and back to The Office. They will be running three to four miles. No one is left behind. They will run at a slow pace. All ages and abilities are welcome to join!
Stay afterwards for refreshments and get to know each other. Follow the group on Facebook at Atascosa Running Club.

Cyber Security Business Workshop at Civic Center
The City of Pleasanton will hold a Cyber Security Business Workshop on May 9, at the Pleasanton Civic Center, at 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Devi Mazumdar and James Adams of San Antonio based CMIT Solutions will serve as this month’s workshop presenters.
Workshop participants are encouraged to review your organization’s current computer operating systems and determine what type of network security is being used. CMIT representatives will discuss various types of cyber security options for your organization.

Special Olympics Track meet at JHS on May 10
Catch the Special Olympics spirit, at the Atascosa McMullen Cooperative Special Olympics Track meet this Friday, May 10, at the Jourdanton Indian football stadium. There will be 12 schools attending, whose athletes will compete in running and field events.
The festivities will kick off with the Law Enforcement Torch Run starting at approximately 9 a.m. at the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office. The torch will make its way to Indian Stadium, with opening ceremonies scheduled for approximately 9:45 a.m.

Free Pleasanton Pickleball event on May 11 & 25
Bring your family, friends, neighbors and tennis shoes to become a part of a fun activity sweeping the nation.
On Saturday, May 11, The Navigators will host the Pleasanton Pickleball event from 4-7 p.m. at the Pleasanton Country Club. The event is free and equipment will be furnished.
The event will also take place on Saturday, May 25- same time and location.

Kid Fish on May 11
Parents, bring the children out to the Pleasanton River Park this Saturday, May 11, for Kid Fish.
The free event runs from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and is being presented by the FinAddict Angler Foundation. There will be free food and free prizes and a fishing clinic will follow. Kid Fish is being sponsored by El Castillo Restaurant.
Poteet Farmer’s Market
The next Poteet Farmer’s Market is set for this Saturday, May 11. Stop by the Poteet Strawberry Festival grounds, at 9199 N. State Hwy 16 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for fruits, veggies, plants, jams, crafts and more.

Jourdanton Farmers Market on May 11
The next Jourdanton Farmers Market is scheduled for this Saturday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event is held each Saturday at 1103 Champion Dr. in Jourdanton, at the swimming pool parking lot.

Mad Max’s Softball Tournament May 11
Let’s play some ball for a good cause, at Mad Max’s Softball Tournament on May 11. The co-ed softball tourney will take place at the Pleasanton Sports Complex starting at 9 a.m. Bracket will be drawn. Fee is $125 per team. Registration deadline is May 8.
Proceeds will be used toward purchasing a diabetic alert dog for Max Wiggins. There will be vendors, concessions, Homerun Derby and activities for kids.

CASA Listening Concert
On Saturday, May 11, join Joe Wayne Vickers and friends at the CASA Listening Concert, from 7-9:30 p.m. The event will take place at ACT Theater in Pleasanton.
The theater is located on Highway 97 West (Between Primo’s and All Saints Episcopal Church) in Pleasanton.
It will be an evening of acoustic-style music featuring local talent in a concert setting, without the noise and distractions of a bar, club, or restaurant.
Admission will be $10 at the door. Proceeds will benefit CASA of South Texas. Refreshments available by donation.
The performers are all Atascosa County natives and residents who are volunteering their time and talent to benefit CASA. Scheduled to perform are Sandy Locke, Joe Wayne Vickers, Ross Hurley, and “What About Bob” (Bob Kinsel and Jon Brauchle).
This will mark the third year for the event. So come on out and support local live music and CASA of South Texas!
Pulling for Safer Path
Safer Path Family Violence Shelter is hosting their first ever sporting clay tournament, Pulling for Safer Path, on May 11 at Malek Buck Horn Creek Ranch in McCoy.
This is a four-man team tournament.
Registration fees are $200 per shooter, $800 per team. Registration includes lunch.

Pleasanton Community Census Meeting
The City of Pleasanton will hold its second 2020 Census Community Meeting on May 13, at 12 p.m., at the Pleasanton Civic Center.
This meeting is open to all nonprofit, civic, fraternal, and faith-based organizations. The Census Community Meeting will include a panel discussion with representatives from the city, county, business, academia, state, and federal government.
Census results impact federal funding, federal programs, federal and state legislative representation, and transportation dollars.

USDA Housing Assistance Workshop
The City of Pleasanton will hold a USDA Housing Assistance Program Workshop on May 13, at 10 – 11:30 a.m., at the Pleasanton Civic Center.
The workshop will feature four of the USDA’s Housing Assistance Programs, which include: Home Ownership, Home Repair, Self Help Program, and Multi-Family Housing.
This workshop is open to any resident in Pleasanton or surrounding communities. Faith-based leaders are also strongly encouraged to participate in this workshop because they may personally connect congregation members to USDA programs.
The City of Pleasanton qualifies for several programs offered by the USDA because of the city’s population and rural community designation.

Jourdanton VFD BBQ Cook-Off on May 17-18
Join the Jourdanton Volunteer Fire Department, as they host the 29th Annual Jourdanton Volunteer Fire Department BBQ Cook-Off, May 17 and 18. This year’s event has moved to the Jourdanton City Park and will feature a washer tournament, Kids Que, IBCA BBQ Cook Off, tours by Methodist Air- Care and Ballet Folklorico dancers.
On Saturday night, the Allen Torans and Misty Blue Band with special guest Clifford Lyssy will perform their awesome country dance music, mixed with some classic rock and roll.
Come out and support your local fire department. Entrance fee is $10 at the gate and it is a BYOB event. There will be sodas and water available for purchase at the event. Local youth groups will also be selling concession stand items to raise funds.
