Poteet Strawberry Festival set for April 5-7

It is almost time for the 72nd Annual Poteet Strawberry Festival, set for Friday-Sunday, April 5-7. The annual event brings in thousands of visitors from the local area and from far away.

Be sure to read about this year’s headliners in this week’s Pleasanton Express.

Remember that parking on the festival grounds is always free. Children 12 and younger are admitted free. Active, Reserve and Retired Military are also free.

Gate admission is $10 per person on Friday, April 5. Valid all Friday night: $1 carnival rides, per ride, per eligible rider.

Gate admission will be $20 per person on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7. Valid all day on Saturday and Sunday: carnival wristbands available, $35 per person, per eligible rider, per day.

There are discounts available when you purchase gate admission tickets online. Online pricing is: $5 per person on Friday KENS5 Night, $15 per person on Saturday H.E.B. Family Day and $15 per person on Sunday Funday.

Please note that three day/weekend passes will not be available.

‘Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike’ March 29-31 at ACT Theatre

ACT Theatre in Pleasanton will present the comedy “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” by Christopher Durang March 29-31. Showtimes will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

JPD Coffee with a Cop

The public is invited to “Coffee with a Cop” on March 27, from 8:30 a.m.- 10 a.m. Join the Jourdanton Police Department for coffee, juice and donuts.

This is a great opportunity for the public to interact with local law enforcement officers in a friendly, informal setting and have an open dialogue about public safety issues that effect our community.

At our March event we have invited the staff of the Atascosa County Animal Control Authority to join us. So come have a cup of java or a bite to eat with us, Wednesday, March 27 at the Jourdanton Police Department. We provide the donuts, you provide the questions!

Pleasanton 2020 Census Community Meeting

The City of Pleasanton will hold a 2020 Census Community Meeting on March 28, at 6 p.m., at the Pleasanton Civic Center.

Richard Castanon, Partnership Specialist with the U.S. Census Bureau and Janice Gonzalez with EMC Strategy Group will conduct a presentation and field questions about the city’s strategy to create awareness about the 2020 Census. This community meeting is open to all Atascosa residents and local government officials.

Financial Wellness Workshop March 28

The City of Pleasanton will hold its first Financial Wellness Workshop on March 28, at 11:30 a.m., at the Pleasanton Civic Center. This workshop is open to all area residents.

Certified Financial Planner Preston Hastings of Primerica Investments will share important tips and strategies to assist individuals and business owners in evaluating current and future financial readiness.

Atascosa County Aggies registration March 29-30

Come and join the Atascosa County Aggies family! It is open to all Atascosa County athletes ages 3-12.

Registration will take place Friday, March 29 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Joe’s Place in Jourdanton; Saturday, March 30 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at Anytime Fitness in Pleasanton and Sunday, March 31 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Poteet Volunteer Fire Department.

Fees are $245 for youth football and $245 for youth cheer.

Interested in additional sports or discounted registration? Ask about our ACA Elite Program offering year round sports for only $45 a month.

Kicks for Kids March 30

The 1st Annual Kicks for Kids will take place this Saturday at the Pleasanton Sports Complex.

This double-elimination kickball tournament will kick off at 8 a.m. The majority of the games will be played between 8-10 a.m.

We will also feature a raffle with fun prizes. Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5.

Representatives from CASA of South Texas, DSHS Foster and Adoption Unit, and Pathways Youth and Family Services will be on-site. Atascosa County Animal Control is also holding their firstever adoption event starting around 9:30 a.m. They are bringing some of their puppies to showcase at our event.

We hope you will stop by to cheer on the eight teams participating in the tournament, shop our raffle, and talk with member of our board to find out how you can help the foster children of Atascosa County. All funds raised from this event will help buy back-to-school shoes. We also appreciate Hibbett Sports for helping us supply children with quality shoes in 2018.

Longhorn Museum to host speaker from George West

The public is cordially invited to attend the Longhorn Museum Society meeting on Tuesday, April 2, and hear a presentation from a speaker from the neighboring town of George West.

Following a brief meeting at 7 p.m., Kevin Mackey will present a program on “George West—The Man.” It promises to be an interesting story of the life and influence of this man who created the town of George West and surrounding communities.

Join them for this special event. Following the presentation, refreshments will be served. The Longhorn Museum is located on Hwy. 97E in Pleasanton. Admission to the museum is always free.

Atascosa County Day

The public is invited to attend Atascosa County Day at the State Capitol on Tuesday, April 2. On this day, special tribute will also be paid to J. Taylor Brite.

Affordable health screenings in Pleasanton

Residents living in and around Pleasanton can learn about their risk for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, and other chronic, serious conditions with affordable screenings by Life Line Screening.

First Baptist Church will host this community event on April 5. The site is located at 400 N Reed Street in Pleasanton.

Screenings can check for: the level of plaque buildup in your arteries, related to risk for heart disease, stroke and overall vascular health; HDL and LDL cholesterol levels, diabetes risk, bone density as a risk for possible osteoporosis, kidney and thyroid function and more.

CASA of South Texas Color Run on April 13

Sign up today for the 2nd Annual CASA of South Texas Color Run, set for Saturday, April 13 at 8 a.m. at the Pleasanton River Park!

Pre-registration cut-off date is March 28 and the sponsorship deadline is April 4.

This day will be full of fun and color! All ages are welcome to run – or walk – in this 5K! The first 75 registered participants will receive a dri-fit Tshirt to wear for the run.

A child under 12-yearsold can participate at no charge with a paid adult runner. Pre-registration is $40 per person and the cut-off date is March 28. Any registration after March 28 will be $45.

PVFD Easter Egg Hunt

Friends will host their 3rd Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 13 at Pleasanton Station #1. It is located at Airport Road and Goodwin and will take place from 12 noon-2 p.m.

Come out and see the Easter Bunny and bring your baskets and camera.

This is a free event.

The Easter Bunny is hopping over to Methodist Hospital South on Saturday, April 13. Bring your children to this free community event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Meet the Easter Bunny and enjoy arts and crafts, cookies and punch.

Bubba Wehman Memorial Golf Tourney in April

The Pleasanton Rotary Club extends an invitation to the public to participate in the 7th Annual Bubba Wehman Memorial Golf Tournament. The event supports the Pleasanton Rotary Club scholarship program.

The 4-person “Florida scramble” tournament will tee off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at the Pleasanton Country Club. An awards dinner will follow, catered by Lew’s Patio & Grill.

Pancake Dinner

The public is invited to a Pancake Dinner on Monday, April 15, at the Pleasanton High School Cafeteria. Serving will be from 6-9 p.m. Plates are $7 each and will include pancakes, sausage, bacon and drinks.

The Easter Bunny will be there for photos. All proceeds benefit Pleasanton High School Project Grad 2019.

CBC Spring Festival

The public is invited to the Coastal Bend College Spring Festival on Tuesday, April 16 in Pleasanton. The festival will run from 5-6:30 p.m.

‘Sweet Memories’ Spring Dance

Jamie’s Special Ranch for Kids will be hosting a free prom-style dance on Tuesday, April 30 from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the Pleasanton Civic Center.

The “Sweet Memories” Spring Dance is for those with special needs, ages 14-adult.

There are 336 people registered along with 95 staff. They currently have a waiting list for the dance.

  1. I would like to sign up to be adopted family. We’ve been having a really hard time this year with the insulation and just being getting over Covid to not just that I just been going through a rough time with money and just need the extra help. thank you and God bless.
