Poteet Strawberry Festival set for April 5-7
The 72nd Annual Poteet Strawberry Festival is quickly approaching! Scheduled for Friday-Sunday, April 5-7, the annual event brings in thousands of visitors from the local area and from far away.
The weekend celebration features top musical performers, food booths, arts and crafts vendors, a large carnival, live family entertainment and acts, and of course- strawberries!
The parade on Saturday, April 6 will kick off at 10 a.m.
Some of this year’s performers include: on Friday- Gary Hobbs, Back In Black- the AC/DC Tribute, The Atomic Punks- The Tribute to Early Van Halen, Los Desperadoz; on Saturday- Aaron Watson, Parker McCollum, Michael Salgado, Eric Y Su Grupo Massore, David Lee Garza y los Musicales, Brad Jenschke, Brandon Michael & True Country and Natalie Rose; on Sunday- Randy Rogers Band, Spazmatics, Bobby Flores Yellow Rose Band and Los Traileros Del Norte.
The Strawberry Auction gets underway Saturday, April 6, with judging at noon and the auction at 2 p.m. The “Taste of Texas” Food Show will follow on Sunday, April 7.
Business Merchandising Workshop March 21
The City of Pleasanton will hold a Business Merchandising Workshop on March 21, at the Pleasanton Civic Center at 11:30 a.m. Ms. Kimberly Wiley of Threads Custom Embroidery & More will lead this month’s business workshop.
This workshop will focus on promotional branded items for small businesses, such as; embroidered or printed shirts, caps, key chains, pens, cups, etc. Complimentary lunch and marketing promotional samples will be provided to workshop participants.

AMRSP Salad Luncheon
Atascosa-McMullen Retired School Personnel will hold its Annual Salad Luncheon and Silent Auction on Thursday, March 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jourdanton Community Center. You don’t want to miss this delicious luncheon!
There will be a variety of meat, vegetable, pasta and congealed salads. Cost is only $9 per person for all you can eat. Come eat some scrumptious salads and support the retired school personnel at the same time.
In conjunction with the luncheon, a silent auction will be held. The retired school personnel have a myriad of children’s Easter baskets, dishes, books, plants, antiques, peanut brittle, home decor, etc- a lot of interesting items.
All proceeds will benefit projects of Atascosa- McMullen Retired School Personnel.
‘Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike’ starts March 22 at ACT Theatre
ACT Theatre in Pleasanton will present “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” by Christopher Durang later this month.
Dates will be March 22- 24 and March 29-31 with showtimes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
KH Farm Season Opener
KH Farm will host their Strawberry Season Opener this Saturday, March 23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
KH Farm is located at 200 W. Tank Hollow Rd. in Poteet.
Along with juicy, sweet, home-grown strawberries, K H Farm will be selling their handmade jellies and jams, as well as their famous, irresistible Strawberry Nut Bread.
Some of the vendors include Live Oak Coffee Company selling coffee and special flavored ice tea, decor by Country Creations, and the Poteet Country Winery.
There will also be food vendors Luckey Red Eats & Treats and Brown Bag B-B-Q, children’s activities and games, Macaroni Kid of San Antonio with bubble activities for kids, the Paintin Patch, and music by Debbie & The Texas Weather band, R&M Woodworks and more. Frog Prince Photography will also be at the event.
There are several purchasing choices available, for both pick-your-own berries and pre-picked berries.
Veggie Plant Giveaway
Rain or shine, 500 plus vegetable plant starts, including green beans, yellow squash, peppers and tomatoes, will be given away at the fourth ‘Great Poteet Plant Giveaway’ Saturday, March 23 beginning at 9 a.m. The free event will take place at First United Methodist Church in Poteet.
Each car in line on Saturday will receive several plants on a first come first served basis until all plants are distributed. Last year plants were all distributed before noon. As we expect another good turnout this year, vehicles may begin lining up at 8:30 a.m. at the front of the church along Fourth Street at Avenue G.

JPD Coffee with a Cop
On March 27, from 8:30 a.m.-10 a.m. we invite you to join us for coffee, juice and donuts at the Jourdanton Police Department for our “Coffee with a Cop” event.
This is a great opportunity for the public to interact with local law enforcement officers in a friendly, informal setting and have an open dialogue about public safety issues that effect our community.
At our March event we have invited the staff of the Atascosa County Animal Control Authority to join us. So come have a cup of java or a bite to eat with us, Wednesday, March 27. We provide the donuts, you provide the questions!
Pleasanton 2020 Census Community Meeting
The City of Pleasanton will hold a 2020 Census Community Meeting on March 28, at 6 p.m., at the Pleasanton Civic Center.
Richard Castanon, Partnership Specialist with the U.S. Census Bureau and Janice Gonzalez with EMC Strategy Group will conduct a presentation and field questions about the city’s strategy to create awareness about the 2020 Census. This community meeting is open to all Atascosa residents and local government officials.
The city is currently developing a Pleasanton Complete Count Committee (CCC), which will assist in the city’s Census Awareness Campaign. The city is also seeking volunteers to serve in a variety of capacities before and during the 2020 Census. Members of nonprofits, civic organizations, and religious groups are strongly encouraged to participate.

Financial Wellness Workshop March 28
The City of Pleasanton will hold its first Financial Wellness Workshop on March 28, at 11:30 a.m., at the Pleasanton Civic Center. This workshop is open to all area residents.
Certified Financial Planner Preston Hastings of Primerica Investments will share important tips and strategies to assist individuals and business owners in evaluating current and future financial readiness.

Atascosa County Aggies registration March 29
Come and join the Atascosa County Aggies family! It is open to all Atascosa County athletes ages 3-12.
Registration will take place Friday, March 29 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Joe’s Place in Jourdanton; Saturday, March 30 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at Anytime Fitness in Pleasanton and Sunday, March 31 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Poteet Volunteer Fire Department.
Fees are $245 for youth football and $245 for youth cheer.

Kicks for Kids March 30
The Atascosa County Child Welfare Board invites you to participate in their 1st Annual Kicks for Kids kickball tournament on March 30, starting at 8 a.m. at the Pleasanton Sports Complex.
The event will be a 10- team double elimination tournament. The event is family-friendly kickball, meaning teams will be comprised of adults and kids. Games will last five innings or 45 minutes, whichever comes first.
Atascosa County Child Welfare Board is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving the foster kids/ families in our county.

The public is invited to attend Atascosa County Day at the State Capitol on Tuesday, April 2. On this day, special tribute will also be paid to J. Taylor Brite.

CASA of South Texas Color Run on April 13

Pre-registration cut-off date is March 28 and the sponsorship deadline is April 4.
This day will be full of fun and color! All ages are welcome to run – or walk – in this 5K! The first 75 registered participants will receive a dri-fit Tshirt to wear for the run.

Friends will host their 3rd Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 13 at Pleasanton Station #1. It is located at Airport Road and Goodwin and will take place from 12 noon-2 p.m.

Bubba Wehman Memorial Golf Tourney in April
The Pleasanton Rotary Club extends an invitation to the public to participate in the 7th Annual Bubba Wehman Memorial Golf Tournament. The event supports the Pleasanton Rotary Club scholarship program.
The 4-person “Florida scramble” tournament will tee off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, at the Pleasanton Country Club. An awards dinner will follow, catered by Lew’s Patio & Grill.
