Deadline Dec. 17 to Adopt A Family
Each year, Safer Path Family Violence Shelter reaches out to the community seeking those interested in adopting either a child or children for the holiday. Here are the requirements to adopt a child for Christmas:
1. Decide how many children you would like to adopt for Christmas.
2. You will receive the child’s first name only, age, gender, sizes, want and wish list.
3. You go shopping! Each gift must be wrapped with the child’s name on the gift along with a dedicated number identifying the client.
4. All gifts must be turned in by Monday, Dec. 17 by 4 p.m.
5. A private Christmas party is held the same week for the children and they receive their gifts, along with meeting Santa.

Volunteer your time, toys and funds to ACCEPT
The annual ACCEPT program covers Atascosa County for the very poorest of our families and elderly who would likely have great need at Christmas without us, so that’s where you come in.
As always, any of your valuable time that you can volunteer is greatly appreciated! St. Andrew’s Parish Hall in Pleasanton will be set up as a distribution center from Sunday, Dec. 16- Friday, Dec. 21.

New Haven Assisted
Living and Memory Care of Floresville Open House
Have a holly, jolly Christmas with New Haven Assisted Living and Memory Care of Floresville.
Please come out and celebrate the most wonderful time of the year on Wednesday, Dec. 12 from 6-8 p.m.
Their Christmas Open House will feature a performance by the Wrangler Band from 6-7 p.m. and Pictures with Santa from 6:30-8 p.m. Please bring your own camera or cell phone to take your Santa pictures.
Hot chocolate and cookies will be served. The event is free but we encourage you to bring an unwrapped new toy to be donated to local families for Christmas.

13 Small Business Accounting Workshop
The City of Pleasanton will hold a Small Business Accounting Workshop in partnership with H&R Block on Dec. 13, at 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., at the Pleasanton Civic Center.
There are many tax incentives designated for small businesses that help minimize tax liabilities, which can positively impact a business’ bottom line. Not Just Dust will hold a public meeting on Thursday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. at the VFW Post 6970 in Poteet, off of Highway 16.

Santa Ride on Dec. 14
The Poteet Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a “Santa Ride” on Friday, Dec. 14. Santa will take off from Poteet High School at 6 p.m. and ride throughout the town.
Santa will end up at the Poteet Fire Station, where he will greet children with a visit and goodies. Anyone wishing to participate in the Santa Ride is welcome.

On behalf of the Poteet Police Department and Poteet Police Association, it is that time of the year again. Blue Santa is coming to town on Saturday, Dec. 15!

The City of Charlotte is holding a benefit plate sale on Saturday, Dec. 15 for one of their city workers, Murrice Luna, who was admitted to Methodist Hospital in San Antonio last week. Murrice was diagnosed with leukemia 13 years ago.
The plate sale will take place at the Charlotte Volunteer Fire Department from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help cover medical expenses. Presale tickets are available at City Hall and the Charlotte Public Library for $8/plate that will include brisket, potato salad, beans and a drink. Baked goods and other goodies will be for sale. Musical on Dec. 15 at FBC Pleasanton
The choirs of First Baptist Churches in Pleasanton and Charlotte will present the Christmas musical, “How Great Our Joy!,” on Saturday Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Charlotte and on Sunday, Dec. 16 at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Pleasanton. It is free and everyone in the community is cordially invited to this musical celebration of Christ’s birth.
Pleasanton’s First Baptist Church handbell choir will also present songs during the musical presentation.
Bikes4Kids4ACause Bike Drawing & Santa
On Saturday, Dec. 15 the Jourdanton Rotary Club will hold their bike drawing from 2-4 p.m. at Methodist Hospital South in Jourdanton. Nearly 20 businesses/organizations are participating by each sponsoring a bike. Please show your appreciation and visit these locations to purchase your raffle tickets to benefit CASA of South Texas and the Children’s Alliance of South Texas. Just look for the bikes around Jourdanton.
The deadline to purchase a raffle ticket is Friday, Dec. 14.
The winning ticket from each business will then go into a special drawing for the split the pot. The rest of the money is going to go to CASA and CAST.

Merrychocolate on and
Merry on Main Street in Pleasanton, a two-day free event, is this weekend! It begins Friday night, Dec. 14 with free family fun featuring an ice slide and food and craft booths. There will also be a free concert featuring the Most Wanted Band.
Saturday morning, Dec. 15 begins with a free movie screening of “Home Alone” at 10 a.m. at the Plestex 4 Theater followed by the Plestex Kids Zone at 12 noon at the Plestex parking lot. Along with food and craft booths, the schedule includes Christmas caroling from 12-6 p.m. by local churches and the Wheels and Wagons Parade at 12:30 p.m.
Entertainment will be from 1-3 p.m. with performances by Ms. Tera’s Tap ‘N Toes and Tae Kwon Do.
Pictures with Santa are from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
At 3 p.m. will be the Telling of the Christmas Story, followed by Texas Dance Culture Ballet Folklorico at 3:30 p.m.
The Old-Fashioned Kids Carnival with a Cup Cake Walk is set for 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Bakers in the Cookie Contest can turn in their entries in the afternoon at the Merry on Main tent next to Nest Feathers by 3:45 p.m. Cookie Contest juding is at 4 p.m. At 4 p.m. entries will be announced in the Business Light Decorating Contest.
The Santa Run will take place at 5 p.m. and the fireworks will fill the nighttime sky starting at 6:45 p.m. The Merry On Main Lighted Night Parade will kick-off with the fireworks show.

The Merry on Main Lighted Night Parade will light up the streets of Pleasanton on Saturday, Dec. 15. It is scheduled to kick off with the fireworks show at 6:45 p.m. The Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce extends an invitation for you to participate in the parade.
Parade entries need to be submitted to the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce by Dec. 12.
