Free senior meals at Pleasanton Civic Center

Application pick-up for free senior meals continues until Nov. 26 at the Pleasanton Civic Center, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Meals will be delivered once a week to qualified seniors at the Civic Center. As part of the City of Pleasanton’s partnership with Meals on Wheels, they must provide congregate seating and eating along with an activity during each meal.

With the new Senior Days program that just started, the City will be providing a place to enjoy a nutritious meal and fellowship. Those with questions may call the Pleasanton Civic Center at 830-569-5904.

PISD to host free parent webinar on Nov. 7

Join Pleasanton ISD as it hosts, “Unorganized, Unfocused, and Unprepared: The Impact of Executive Functioning Skills in the Classroom.” This free webinar parent training is scheduled for Wed., Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the PISD Training Center.

Does your son or daughter have trouble organizing work, completing tasks, managing materials, managing time, paying attention or have social difficulties?

These cognitive skills are referred to as Executive Functioning Skills. They greatly impact children’s achievement and are often an associated feature of developmental or learning disabilities, or caused by a mismatch between a child’s neurodevelopmental stage and the demands of their environment.

This training will focus on ways in which parents and teachers can use appropriate strategies to support children’s developing executive skills, while helping improve academic performance.

Atascosa County Veterans Day Event on Nov. 7

The Atascosa County Veterans Service Office invites local veterans to their 3rd Annual Atascosa County Veterans Day Event on Wed., Nov. 7. Join them as they honor local veterans, the brave men and women who have sacri- ficed so much to ensure our country’s freedoms.

The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Veterans Service Office, located at 818 Main St. in Jourdanton. As a token of appreciation, a complimentary lunch will be provided.

Nov. 8 Small Business Workshop at CBC

The City of Pleasanton and the Office of State Representative Ryan Guillen will hold a Collaborative Small Business Workshop in partnership with the Texas Comptroller’s Office and the Texas Secretary of State on Nov. 8, at 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., at Coastal Bend College-Pleasanton.

JISD to be recognized Purple Heart ISD

Veterans and those in the military are encouraged and invited to attend a ceremony at Jourdantion High School Stadium this Friday, Nov. 9. The Military Order of the Purple Heart will proclaim Jourdanton ISD a “Purple Heart ISD” and supporter of the combat wounded. The ceremony starts at 1 p.m.

The purpose is to honor those who serve in the military, veterans, those who have served in combat, and their families. They would love to have other service members, especially Purple Heart Recipients attend this event.

“Cabin Fever” at ACT Theatre starts Nov. 9

Show dates for ACT Theatre Group’s Fall production of the funny family drama “Cabin Fever” have been set for Nov. 9-11 and 16-18 with Jessica Maxwell and Lucinda Vickers codirecting.

ACT Theatre is located at 1435 W Oaklawn in Pleasanton tucked away behind All Saints’ Episcopal Church and next door to Pizza Hut.

Nov. 10 Fundraiser for Mario Escobedo

The Pleasanton Fire Department will host a fundraiser for Pleasanton Fire Lt. Mario Escobedo to help with unexpected medical expenses on Sat., Nov. 10 at the downtown fire station, 219 W. Hunt St. in Pleasanton. Serving starts at 11 a.m.

Purchase a plate with carne guisada, rice, beans, potato salad and a drink, all for $8. Baked goods will also be on sale.

Christmas Craft Show is this Saturday

The Atascosa County Child Welfare Board will hold its annual Christmas Craft Show on Sat., Nov. 10 at the Cowboy Fellowship in Jourdanton from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Admission will be free. Proceeds go towards local children in care of the Texas Department of Child Protective


Breakfast and Day of Refreshing

First Baptist Church, 400 N. Reed St, in Pleasanton will host a Veteran’s Day Breakfast for all veterans and their families on Sun., Nov. 11 from 8:30 – 9:15 a.m. in the old fellowship hall. All are welcome.

Breakfast will be followed by Bible study at 9:30 a.m. and worship at 10:50 a.m. led by the worship team of Randy and Debbi Fair.

Randy shares the gospel through a “chalk talk” ministry of creating a picture by chalk art while preaching. Debbi is a gifted musician and will also lead in worship. They’ll also lead a second worship time at 6:30 p.m. All are cordially welcome. A free-will love offering will be taken to support them and their ministry.

Legion Veterans Day Spaghetti Dinner

Atascosa County American Legion Post #436 will host its free Veterans Day Spaghetti Dinner this Sunday, Nov. 11. The program will start at 6 p.m. and doors will open at 5 p.m. They plan to eat by 6:30 p.m.

Christine Homecoming & Turkey Dinner

Christine will host its 58th annual Christine Homecoming turkey dinner and celebration this Sunday, Nov. 11, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church Hall.

Last year’s proceeds provided $700 scholarships to four Christine-area college students. Over the past five years, the fund has contributed $33,000 to local students.

This year’s reunion will feature crafts, a silent auction, door prizes, and a raffle featuring quilts created by local fabric artists. Entertainment will include a roping in the community arena. Roping books open at 11:30 a.m., with draw at 12:30. Ropers can contact Marissa at 850-398-2225 for roping information.

Mark your calendars now to come home to Christine. Serving begins at 10:30 a.m. All plates are $8 and include turkey, dressing, and all the trimmings, including drinks and dessert.

STAAR Accommodations and You webinar

Join us for a free parent training live webinar: STAAR Accommodations and You. It is scheduled for Wed., Nov. 14, from 9 a.m.— 12 p.m. at the PISD Training Center, located next door to junior high.

During state assessments for STAAR, certain accessibility features and accommodation resources may be provided to students based on their needs. In general, these procedures and materials are available to any student who regularly benefits from the use of them during instruction. Come join us for an in depth review of the accommodations approved for use with STAAR. This training will also specifically address what accessibility features and designated supports are allowable for students receiving Section 504 and special education services.

Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Department and Pleasanton Express will host Seniors Day on Thurs., Nov. 15, at the Pleasanton Civic Center. Join them for bingo starting at 10 a.m.
