Senior’s Day Sept. 24 at Civic Center

The Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with the Pleasanton Express to create an avenue for our senior citizens to stay active throughout the year.

Each week there will be a day dedicated and time for all seniors to join in the fun activities at the Pleasanton Civic Center. This will be free with no registration needed.

The next date is Sept. 24 at 9 a.m. at the Pleasanton Civic Center. Activities planned for Senior’s Day include bingo, arts and crafts, line dancing and more.

City of Pleasanton Softball League to begin

Just a reminder that the Fall Co-Ed Softball League registration fee is $150 and the season is six-eight weeks. It begins Sept. 23 and game days are on Sunday, tentatively at 5 p.m. Deadline to register is Wednesday, Sept. 19.

Hispanic Heritage Celebration at Coastal Bend

Join Coastal Bend College in Pleasanton for their Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration on Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Honorary speaker will be State Representative Ryan Guillen. Guest speakers will include Janice Gonzales, Debbie Molina, Mary Gallegos, Mike Lambaria and Johnny Huizar. Food and drinks will be served.

If you would like to provide a Hispanic heritage food from your region/ country or an artifact, please bring it with you to display. CBC is located at 1411 Bensdale Rd. in Pleasanton.

Atascosa Co. Animal Control Grand Opening

The public is invited to the grand opening of the Atascosa County Animal Control facility, on Friday, Sept. 21 from 1-3 p.m. Join them for a ribbon cutting, facility tour and refreshments.

The facility is located at 292 Spur 162 in Jourdanton, directly behind TexBest.

Rock-N-At the River Gospel Music Festival

Join The Navigators as they host the 7th annual Rock-N-At the River Gospel Music Festival on Saturday, Sept. 22. The free event will take place from 1-5 p.m. at the Pleasanton Civic Center.

Cleto Rodriguez of FOX 29 News will be the Master of Ceremonies.

Come enjoy some Texas Pride BBQ, soft drinks and great music by Clifton Jansky, Patsy Torres and Javier Galvan. There will be many door prizes, including the grand prize of a flat screen TV.

UMW Christmas Trunk Show on Sept. 23

Come do your Christmas shopping early at the UMW Trunk Show on Sunday, Sept. 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. For more information, talk to Denise Petter or call the church office at 830-569-2083.

Pleasanton High School Homecoming Pep Rally

The Pleasanton High School Cheerleaders invite members of the community to come together and support our Eagles, at the Homecoming Pep Rally on Wednesday, Sept. 26. The special event will take place at Eagle Stadium at 7 p.m.

Larry Brown Memorial Scholarship Raffle and Concert on Sept. 28

Be sure to buy raffle tickets during the next Eagle football home games. Tickets are $10 each and the prize is a 2008 Ford F150 King Ranch pickup truck. Proceeds will benefit the Larry Brown Memorial Scholarship fund and the PISD Education Foundation Teachers’ Grant fund.

The winner will be announced at the FREE concert on Friday, Sept. 28 after the football homecoming game at the Atascosa County Showbarn arena. PHS alumni John Mayse, JC Martinez, Richard Garcia, Barry Milam and Randy Reed and their band 86d will perform.

1977 graduate Sue Brown and Leslie Brown, daughter of Larry Brown, and 1978 graduate Noel Wilkerson Holmes will be selling the tickets during the game. Brown was the PHS Principal from 1977- 1994.

Household Hazardous Material Collection Day

The free Household Hazardous Material Collection Day is set for Saturday, Sept. 29, from 8 a.m. to noon. This is open to all residents of the City of Pleasanton and will take place at 315 Colwell (Pleasanton River Park, Pavilion #3, corner of Hunt and Colwell).

Beth Moore Simulcast at First Baptist Pleasanton

First Baptist Church Pleasanton is going to be sponsoring a free Beth Moore Simulcast, on Saturday, October 6, from 9 a.m. until 4:15 p.m. with an hour break for lunch. There will be free babysitting provided for up to the age of 5-years-old.

Foster Care, Adoption Information Meeting

If you are interested in becoming a foster parent or adopting a child in foster care, you are invited to the Foster Care and Adoption Information Meeting. Vendors sought for Christmas Craft Show

Saturday, Nov. 10 will be the Atascosa County Child Welfare Board Christmas Craft Show, at the Cowboy Fellowship in Jourdanton. The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Admission will be free at this event. Stop by and buy some Christmas gifts for your family. It will be the perfect time for a holiday shopping spree for a good cause! Proceeds go towards local children in care of the Texas Department of Child Protective Services.
