First Baptist Awana Clubs Kick-Off on Sept. 5

First Baptist Church of Pleasanton welcomes all children, kindergarten through the fifth grade, to come join Awana Clubs. On Wednesday, Sept. 5 there will be a block party and registration night with free hot dogs, bounce houses, snow cones and pop corn from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the church courtyard at 400 Reed St. in Pleasanton.

GriefShare to begin at Cowboy Fellowship

Cowboy Fellowship will start their GriefShare program at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9.

GriefShare is a support group that meets weekly. You will find a warm, caring environment and will come to see the group as an oasis on your long journey through grief. You are welcome to begin attending the GriefShare group at any point. Each session is “self-contained” so you do not have to attend in sequence.

Day to start on Sept. 10

The Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with the Pleasanton Express to create an avenue for our senior citizens to stay active throughout the year.

Each week there will be a day dedicated and time for all seniors to join in the fun activities at the Pleasanton Civic Center. This will be free with no registration needed.

The first date will be Monday, Sept. 10 at 9 a.m. at the Civic Center. Activities planned for Senior’s Day include bingo, arts and crafts, line dancing and

A Cop to benefit St. Jude on Sept. 14

Join the Pleasanton Police Department and the Jourdanton Police Department at Chili’s as they fight for cures to childhood diseases.

The 3rd annual Tip-ACop fundraiser – BBQ and music event – will be held on Friday, Sept. 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of Chili’s, 2311 W. Oaklawn Rd. Funds will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

HeartStrings for Hope ticket deadline Sept. 15

The annual HeartStrings for Hope on Sept. 29 will be a night of dinner and dancing at Strawberry Pines in Poteet.

HeartStrings for Hope is a fundraiser benefiting the Atascosa Family Crisis Center and CASA of South Texas. Tickets to the event include dinner, raffle, live auction, and entertainment by Grammy Award-winning, fiddle player Jason Roberts and his band.

Tickets can be purchased in person at The Good Health Store in Pleasanton. Single tickets are $75 and couple’s tickets are $140.

Deadline to purchase tickets/sponsorships is Sept. 15. Tickets will not be available at the door.

Memorial Scholarship Raffle and Concert

Be sure to buy raffle tickets during the next three Eagle football home games. Tickets are $10 each and the prize is a 2008 Ford F150 King Ranch pickup truck. Proceeds will benefit the Larry Brown Memorial Scholarship fund and the PISD Education Foundation Teachers’ Grant fund.

The winner will be announced at the FREE concert on Friday, Sept. 28 after the football homecoming game at the Atascosa County Showbarn arena. PHS alumni John Mayse, JC Martinez, Richard Garcia, Barry Milam and Randy Reed and their band 86d will perform.

1977 graduate Sue Brown and Leslie Brown, daughter of Larry Brown, and 1978 graduate Noel Wilkerson Holmes will be selling the tickets during the game. Brown was the principal at PHS from 1977-

Day Out

Moms can have that much needed time out at Moms Day Out held at First United Methodist Church, 420 N. Main St. in Pleasanton. Days are each Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For ages 3-5.

Fall Recreational Leagues

Stay active this fall and compete in co-ed kickball and softball. The deadline is mid-September.

In order to have a Fall League, the City of Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Department needs a minimum of four teams per sport.

The Fall Co-Ed Softball League registration fee is $150 and the season is six-eight weeks. It begins Sept. 23 and game days are on Sunday, tentatively at 5 p.m. Deadline to register is Wednesday, Sept. 19.

The Fall Co-Ed Kickball League registration fee is $150 and the season will be six-eight weeks. It will start Sept. 20. Game days are Thursdays, tentatively at 6:30 p.m.
