TX Parks and Wildlife demonstration July 19
The Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Department will continue its free 12 Week Summer Program for youth this Thursday, July 19. Texas Parks and Wildlife will sponsor a wildlife demonstration at the Pleasanton Civic Center at 10 a.m.
Pleasanton Library weekly events
“Mondays at the Movies” will continue at the Pleasanton Civic Center from now until August 20 at 10 a.m. “Teen Fridays” will be held from now until August 24, at 3 p.m. Please call the library at 830-569-5901 for details.
St. Matthew Vacation Bible School
All children ages pre-kindergarten to fifth grade are invited to VBS at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Jourdanton, July 31- August 3. Time will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. You can register online through the St. Matthew Facebook page, or pick up forms at the entrance of the church. Deadline to register is July 23. Free Movie Nights to continue this summer
The Atascosa Family Crisis Center and community have teamed up for free Movie Nights. Dates are:
July 20- Pleasanton River
July 27- Charlotte City
Aug. 3- McMullen County
Community Center in
Aug. 4- Poteet Canyon
Aug. 10- Pleasanton River
Movies will kick off around sunset, 7:30 p.m. or so. Food and drink are free while supplies last. Feel free to bring your own snacks. No alcohol will be allowed, as these are family events.
Yesteryear Festival at Longhorn Museum July 21
Bring the family to the Yesteryear Festival at the Longhorn Museum on Saturday, July 21, and take a look at the “good old days.” Admission is free. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with exhibits on the museum grounds and inside. Refreshments will also be available. The museum is located on Hwy. 97E in Pleasanton. There will be a Petting Zoo; story telling, Indian clay art and pottery; butter making and churning; and a performance by Ballet Folklorico, to name just a few. As before, the Boy Scouts will be there to help out with many activities.
CASA 5K Color Run July 21 at River Park
The first ever CASA 5K Color Run is set for Saturday, July 21, at 8 a.m. at the Pleasanton River Park. All ages are welcome to run or walk in this 5K. Registration the day of the event will be $35. Please call 830-569-4696 for details.
Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps at JHS
The Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps members are coming to Jourdanton High School on July 21. Come for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Watch The Cavaliers as they practice for the DCI competition and chat with the performers during their breaks. They will practice at JISD Stadium from 9 a.m. to noon, break for lunch then practice 1-4 p.m. or so depending on their performance time.
Registration deadline for Back to School Bash
It’s time to register for the 6th annual Back to School Bash. The free school supply drive is hosted by New Beginnings Baptist Church, so that area children from pre-kindergarten- 12th grade can have a jump start at school. Please note you must register your child by July 27 (or while supplies last) to receive supplies through this program by calling Josie at 830-570-8794. The Back to School Bash event is set for August 11 at the Pleasanton River Park, when children will enjoy free food, games, school supplies, backpacks and door prizes.
Basketball Clinic in Poteet on July 28
Boys and girls ages 12-15 are invited to take part in a free upcoming Basketball Clinic at the Poteet High School Gym. It is scheduled for Saturday, July 28, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Come enjoy free prizes, food and drinks. The clinics will be led by Martha Brymer and local athletes. All displaced Hurricane Harvey families now residing in the counties surrounding Bexar may apply for assistance. The Alamo Resource Conservation and Development is now accepting new applications for assistance at www.alamorcd.org using their online application. Deadline is July 31. ID is required from FEMA Designated Disaster County residence at time of the storm.
