Pleasanton Library events
Beat the heat with “Mondays at the Movies” began June 18 at the Pleasanton Civic Center and will continue until August 20 at 10 a.m.
“Teen Fridays” will be held from June 22- August 24, at 3 p.m. Before the movie on Fridays, money management modules for the teens will be presented. These modules will include topics such as buying your first car and how to fill out a W-4.

Trailblazer at Charlotte Library
On Wednesday, June 20, the Tocker Foundation will bring Trailblazer, an interactive museum on wheels to Charlotte Public Library.
This semi-truck will provide students of all ages engagement in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) for school and potential careers in STEM for the future. The event will be open to students from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Free Summer Program for kids June 21
The City of Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Department will hold its next Free Summer Program for kids on Thursday, June 21. Bring the kids to the Pleasanton Civic Center for arts and crafts at 10 a.m., sponsored by Jamie’s Ranch.
City of Pleasanton Budget Workshop
The City of Pleasanton Budget Workshop is set for Thursday, June 21 at 5 p.m. prior to the next regular council meeting.
Pleasanton City Manager Johnny Huizar will present council with the 2018-2019 draft budget.
Benefit for Jaramillo
A Barbecue Chicken/Kiolbassa Sausage Plate Sale will be held for Sebastian Jaramillo on Saturday, June 23. Pick up location will be 140 Crestfield Dr. in Pleasanton from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Plates are $8 each and will include a leg quarter, sausage, rice, beans, potato salad, bread and tea.
Funds raised will benefit Sebastian Jaramillo, to help with medical expenses due to cancer. For directions or tickets, please call David at 210-440-1496.
Basketball-Arama on June 23
The Navigators of South Texas invite the public to their 6th Annual City Tournament on Saturday, June 23. The event will take place at the Pleasanton High School Gym from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The 5×5 double-elimination competition is for a maximum of 10 teams. There will be free food and drinks available and the event is open to the public.
Prizes will include trophies, T-shirts and NBA balls. There is an entrance fee per team to cover costs. Call Bob Byrd at 210-896-5525 for details.
St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church Annual Picnic June 24
St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Charlotte will hold their annual church picnic on Sunday, June 24th. There will be a Spanish Mass at 10 a.m. and an English Mass will follow at 11:30. Afterwards, brisket/sausage plates will be sold for $8 a plate. Various activities will take place throughout the day including music from DJ Casares, a volleyball tournament, raffle drawing, bingo, washer pitch, country store and so much more. Be sure to come out on June 24 to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church located at 333 Madero St. This event is dedicated in loving memory of Juanita M. Tijerina.
Poteet Summer Reading Program
The Poteet Public Library will hold its Summer Reading Program starting June 26, from 10-11 a.m. every Tuesday through July 31.
The library will also be open the following Saturdays: June 23, July 21 and August 18, from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m.
Jourdanton Library Salad Luncheon
The Friends of the Jourdanton Community Library will hold their annual Salad Luncheon & Silent Auction on Thursday, June 28, at the Jourdanton Community Center.
Serving will be from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. The cost is only $9 for all you can eat salads and includes ice tea.
There will be an array of different salads to choose from. We will have lots of interesting items in the Silent Auction.

Blood drive at Sheriff’s Office
The Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office will host a blood drive Friday, June 29. The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center bus will be in the parking lot at the Sheriff’s Office from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
There is currently a critical shortage of O-negative and O-positive blood. Although all are encouraged to donate, people with these blood types are urgently needed.
Dr. Ben & Mona Parker TX Historical Marker
The Atascosa County Historical Commission and the Longhorn Museum Society cordially invite everyone to attend the dedication of an Official Texas Historical Marker to honor “Dr. Ben and Mona Parker and KBOP.”
The unveiling will take place Saturday, June 30 at 10 a.m. at the Longhorn Museum. Refreshments will be served inside the museum following the ceremony, compliments of the Longhorn Museum Society.
