Nov. 6 deadline to audition for Merry on Main’s

Got Talent Show

Audition tapes for the Merry on Main’s Got Talent Show are still being accepted. Video submission deadline is this Friday, Nov. 6.

Please send a two-minute audition tape to entertainment@merryonmain.org, along with your name, age and performance category (vocal performance, comedy act, instrumental, etc.).

There are two age groups: ages 5-15 and 16 and older. The top 10 contestants in each age group will perform at the Merry on Main’s Got Talent Show set for Dec. 4 at the Pleasanton River Park, hosted by Poteet’s own singer and songwriter Brad Jenschke.

Cash prizes are first place- $300, second place- $200 and third place- $100. Cash prizes are sponsored by Country Girl Designs.

Save the date- Wild Bill “Christmas” Cowboy Gallop, Dec. 5

The Wild Bill “Christmas” Cowboy Gallop hosted by the Pleasanton Express is set for Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Pleasanton River Park.



The 5K race and 2-mile fun run/walk will be held in conjunction with Merry on Main. You can register online at this link: www.pleasantonexpress.com/wild-bill-cowboy gallop-signup/

Bring your Santa hats and jingle bells and expect the same Texas hospitality at the event as always. Free T-shirts to the first 150 to sign up and free homemade tacos and tamales plus beverages post-race.

Paws for a Cause 5K & 1 Mile Walk on Nov. 7

Bring your fur friends to the 2nd annual Paws for a Cause 5K & 1 Mile Walk set for this Saturday, Nov. 7. This special dog day in the park is free and will take place at the Pleasanton River Park.

Online preregistration will close Wednesday. If you didn’t have a chance to sign up, don’t worry. On-site registration will be available Nov. 7 from 8-8:45 a.m. The Run/Walk kicks off at 9 a.m.

Enjoy a day of activities such as the Pop Up Dog Park, Pet Contest, Friendliest Face Contest and more.

Benefit BBQ for Lupe Estrada Martinez Nov. 7

The friends and family of Lupe Estrada Martinez will hold a Benefit BBQ Plate Sale on Saturday, Nov. 7. Serving will begin at 11 a.m. at the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce Log Cabin until sold out.

Plates will be $9 each and will include delicious cooked barbecue chicken, Kiolbassa sausage, rice, beans, potato salad, bread and jalapeño. All proceeds go towards medical and living expenses for Martinez, who is a breast cancer warrior.

Drinks and baked goods will also be available for purchase. For presale tickets, or if you have baking skills and would like to donate baked goods, contact James at 830-570- 6625.

PHS Softball Team Rummage Sale on Nov. 7

See what treasures you can find at the Pleasanton Eagles Softball Rummage Sale on Saturday, Nov. 7. The fundraiser will run from 8 a.m. to noon at the athletic office parking lot.



There will be furniture, appliances, sports equipment, tools, electronics, clothes, dishes, toys, home decor and more.

Event organizers kindly request that those attending wear a mask to help keep their players safe and healthy.

Atascosa Animal Allies Putts for Paws Nov. 7

Attention, golfers! Golf teams are needed to sign up for the Atascosa Animal Allies 3rd Annual Putts for Paws golf tournament on Saturday, Nov. 7.

The event will take place at the Pleasanton Country Club with registration at 11 a.m. and the tourney scheduled to start at noon. It will be four-person scramble (handicapped) and those over 70 years of age may hit from the senior tees. The fee is $100 per player and $400 per team.

First place prize is $1,500, second place prize is $1,000, third place prize is $800 and fourth place prize is $400. The Hole in One Prize is a 2021 Kawasaki Mule valued at $10,568, sponsored by Tuttle Outdoor Power.

Wild Bill’s Pumpkin Fun Run, day of fun at George Farms in Poteet

There is still time to sign up for the first ever Wild Bill’s Pumpkin Fun Run on Saturday, Nov. 7 at George Farms, 595 Mobile Home Alley in Poteet. Funds raised will go towards the cost of a Diabetic Alert Dog for Billy George, the son of Jennifer and James George. You can register at RunSignUp.com and search Wild Bill’s Pumpkin Fun Run. Fees are $30 for the 5K Run/Walk, $25 for the Virtual 5K and $25 for the 10 and Under 5K.

Runners are also able to sign up the day of the race, with registration starting at 7 a.m. The race will start at 8 a.m.

For those not running, there is a $5 entry fee and ages 2 and younger are admitted free. Fishing is $10 a person.

There will be local vendors galore and brisket plates and goodies for sale. Enjoy face painting, games, DJ music and more. Raffle will close at 2 p.m. with the winners to be announced immediately afterwards.

Sign up for Little Miss Merry on Main Pageant

The Little Miss Merry on Main Pageant will be back this year, as part of Merry on Main 2020 on Saturday, Dec. 5. The pageant will take place on the Main Stage at 10:30 a.m.

The event will be open to Atascosa County girls ages 7-10 and is sponsored by the Woman’s Club of Pleasanton. Dress attire is Sunday’s Best. All contestants shall wear masks.

Preregister at info@merryonmain.org or stop by the Pleasanton Civic Center to pick up a form. Deadline is quickly approaching to sign up.

American Legion Veterans Day Fundraiser Nov. 14

A Veterans Day Fundraiser is set for Saturday, Nov. 14 at the American Legion Post 436, 1404 Zanderson Ave. (Highway 16) in Jourdanton. Dance to the music of Brad Jenschke and Neon Ranch from 8 p.m. to midnight. Entry is $10 per person. The dance is BYOB and masks and social distancing will be required.

Raffle tickets and items will be on display at the dance.

A barbecue brisket and sausage plate sale will follow on Sunday, Nov. 15, with to-go plates from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Plates are $10 each. Presale barbecue tickets can be purchased at The Good Health Store or Clearwater Pool & Spa in Pleasanton, The Other Shot Glass or State Farm Insurance- Jeff Chicoine in Jourdanton.

Funds raised will go towards helping to save American Legion Post 436 from closing its doors. The American Legion relies on rentals of its hall for the bulk of its funding and the pandemic has greatly impacted rentals.

Community Clean Up at River Park on Nov. 14

The City of Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Community Clean Up on Saturday, Nov. 14. Celebrate this time of giving by helping others and keep Pleasanton beautiful.

Volunteers are asked to meet at the large pavilion at the Pleasanton River Park at 8 a.m. Bring your own tools. Breakfast will be served to volunteers.

Nov. 20 deadline to be part of the River Park Wonderland

The Pleasanton River Park Wonderland Christmas Tree Trail is coming back. The Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Department and Merry on Main Street is excited to have the community come together to create this joyful Christmas display for families and friends to enjoy.

Enter Merry on Main Gingerbread House Contest

If you would like to participate in the Gingerbread House Contest at Merry on Main, fill out the preregistration form by visiting merryonmain.org/ forms and turn it in to entertainment@merryonmain.org or to the Pleasanton Civic Center, located at 115 N. Main St. Deadline to enter is Nov. 20. There is a youth category (ages 5-15) and an adult category (16 and older).

Show off your skills in these categories: Most Creative, Most Delicious Looking, Largest Structure and Most Festive.

Be a part of the Merry on Main Night Parade!

The Merry on Main Lighted Christmas Night Parade will be held on Saturday, Dec. 5, starting at 7 p.m. Local groups and organizations are invited to join in the fun and participate in the parade. Parade forms are available online at merryonmain.org under the “Forms” section. Deadline to turn in your form is Nov. 25.

Mask/face coverings shall be worn by all participants before, during and after the parade. This includes those riding on floats, walking or within vehicles. Event organizers encourage all participants to make their masks part of the parade entry as long as masks are functional.

Parade entries will begin lining up at 5 p.m. starting on Stadium Drive and judging will start at 6 p.m. The parade route will be different this year to allow more space for spectators.

Vintage in Verdi

Mark your calendars for the 8th Annual Vintage in Verdi outdoor market, Dec. 4-5.

There will be over 80 vendors bringing their antiques, vintage items, retro items, hand-crafted pieces, homemade, artisan and unique wares. Come join them and get in the holiday spirit with delicious food, coffee, hot chocolate, live music, free kids crafts and so much more.

Poteet Grange Christmas display planned

Poteet Grange will once again sponsor the Christmas display on the Poteet Strawberry Festival grounds on Highway 16.

They are looking for businesses, churches, organizations and families to participate. These should be put up the last week of November or the first week of December and taken down shortly after Jan. 1.

The Christmas Story on Dec. 5

A live production of “The Christmas Story” is coming to The Plestex screen 1 on Saturday, Dec. 5.

Come celebrate the reason for the season. The event is produced by Hurley’s Actors and Players and directed by Bob Hurley and Lucinda Vickers.

Merry on Main 2020

Get ready for Merry on Main Street 2020, Friday- Saturday, Dec. 4 and 5 in Pleasanton. It will be the largest Christmas event in Atascosa County, located in downtown Main Street in Pleasanton.

This Christmas festival for all ages will include a free Kid Zone, ice slide, lighted parade, Pale Rider Memorial Firework Show, Talent Show, Santa visits, live music, Ballet Folklorico dancers and more. The streets will be lined with strolling carolers, the Grinch, food trucks and shopping.

New this year is the “Merrier on Main” after party and dance with Brad Jenschke and Neon Ranch performing at the River Park from 9 p.m. to midnight. This will be a ticketed event in an attempt to keep it from getting over crowded. Tickets will be $10 at the door. Limited table seating. Thermal checks will be performed upon entry. Vendors and alcohol sales will be present at the concert.

Christmas in Charlotte Parade Dec. 12

The 2020 Christmas in Charlotte event has been cancelled due to COVID-19, but the annual Christmas parade is still happening and is set for Saturday, Dec. 12.

This year, the City of Charlotte will be holding a Decoration Challenge: Christmas Winter Wonderland. Deck out your trailer, vehicle, etc. for the chance to win the Most Christmas Spirit for 2020.
