FBC Poteet Blood Drive

Give the gift of life Sunday, July 26, at the First Baptist Church of Poteet Blood Drive. The church is located at 437 Avenue D.

The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center bloodmobile will be at the church from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

You must schedule an appointment to donate, which can be made by calling 210-731-5590. All donors will receive points to the new donor store to choose from hundreds of gift cards such as Chili’s and Walmart.

To donate blood you must be at least 16 years old, weigh 120 pounds and present a signed parental consent form or 17 years old or older, and weigh at least 110 pounds; in good general health and present a valid photo ID.

Virtual Women’s Entrepreneurship Bootcamp

Workforce Solutions Alamo is hosting a series of virtual entrepreneurship workshops for women in English and Spanish. This workshop, previously an in-person series, is now available virtually due to recent public health concerns.

This is a half-day Women’s Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for women entrepreneurs and business owners. Participants will have the opportunity to work one on one with a UTSA Small Business Development Center advisor at no cost after the boot camp to receive guidance on the process of business startup and growth.

There is no fee for this webinar for eligible participants. Criteria is:

• Women 18 years of age and older.

• Either U.S. citizens or non-citizens authorized to work in the U.S.

• A resident of one of the following counties: Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Frio, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Karnes, Kendall, Kerr, McMullen, Medina, Wilson.

Agenda includes:

• Start Smart (9-11 a.m.)

• Marketing and Sales (11 a.m.-12 p.m.)

• Introduction to Social Media (12-1 p.m.)

This one-day boot camp is offered various dates virtually from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

English date: Aug. 3

Spanish dates: July 27 and Aug. 24

Poteet Summer Reading

The Poteet Public Library Summer Reading Program continues until July 24. Grab a free book from the black cart and a book log to keep record of your reading.

Books will not have to be turned in, as they were donated by the Pleasanton Woman’s Club. The books are yours to keep.

Then, from July 27-29, you can bring in your book log to get a prize. Registration for the program is not required.
