2020 PYF Rodeo Cancelled

Out of concern for the health and safety of their volunteers, contestants, staff, sponsors and the local community – and in line with current recommendations by executive order of the Governor of the State of Texas – the 2020 Pleasanton Young Farmers Open Rodeo and Festival has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They look forward to holding the rodeo as scheduled in 2021.

In order to continue their mission of supporting the youth of Atascosa County, the PYF Association will be holding a raffle for the PYF Scholarship Fund. More details about the raffle will be announced in the near future.

Poteet Summer Reading

Come on by the Poteet Public Library for their Summer Reading Program. Grab a free book from the black cart and a book log to keep record of your reading.

Books will not have to be turned in, as they were donated by the Pleasanton Woman’s Club. The books are yours to keep.

The program will run from now until July 24. Then, from July 27-29, you can bring in your book log to get a prize. Registration for the program is not required.

City of Pleasanton Brush/Bulky Trash info

Brush and bulky trash pick-up for the City of Pleasanton is underway for Area #1 and will continue until July 17. This is for areas west of Bryant Street and north of Goodwin Street.

Area #2 pick-up will be July 20–July 24 for areas west of Hwy. 281 to Bryant Street and south of Goodwin. Area #3 pick-up will be July 27–July 31 for areas east of Hwy 281 and north of Coughran Road.

Please note trash should not be placed curbside more than two weeks prior to the assigned pick-up date. Trash should not be more than 10 cubic yards per residential location. Community Development Services should be notified for approval to combine trash piles from different locations to prevent additional charges for piles more than 10 cubic yards at a single location.

Trash should not be near any objects preventing pick-up. Trash piles that contain dead animals, tires, concrete, oils, chemicals, hazardous waste, gypsum boards, roof tiles, refrigerant-containing appliances, TVs and monitors will not be accepted.

Free parenting classes

On Saturday, July 18, from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Crosspoint Fellowship will hold free parenting classes. The church is located at 739 Dallas St. in Pleasanton.

Please note that participants must wear a face mask and bring photo ID. Participants will receive credit for the class. Call Neda at 830-742-8910 for further details.

City of Jourdanton Bulk/ Brush pick-up

Jourdanton residents who have not already done so can begin placing bulk and brush items out for collection. The items will be collected July 20- 24.

Maximum limit is 10 cubic yards (6 feet wide by 15 feet long by 3 feet high). Brush must be cut into 4-foot lengths.

Place all brush and bulk items separately at front curb of residence as close to the street as possible. Items may be put out two weekends prior to scheduled collection date.

Collection trucks will only pass through each street once and will not go back. All items must be away from fences, mailboxes or anything impeding collection.

No commercial businesses will be picked up. Items that will not be picked up are batteries, TVs and building materials as well as items containing hazardous materials. Separate arrangements must be made by calling 1-800- 800-5804.

Free clothing and shoes distribution July 15

Atascosa First Seventhday Adventist Church will distribute free clothes, jackets and shoes on Wednesday, July 15. Stop by their community center, 1093 FM RD 476 East (off of Avenue H and 11th Street) in Poteet, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. They will also be giving out some miscellaneous household items to anyone needing a helping hand.

Please do not take clothing that they give you free if you plan to sell it. If you have clothing items in good condition that you no longer need, bring them by and church staff will be happy to give them to someone who needs them.
