Business Start Up Workshop on Feb. 27
Attention aspiring business owners!
There will be a Business Start Up Workshop on Feb. 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Costal Bend College in Pleasanton.
The Secretary of State’s Office and the Texas Comptroller’s Office will be there to discuss filing business information, business start up services, training, franchise tax law, purchasing and revenue estimator.

Daddy Daughter Dance set for Feb. 28
Children Matter Family Life Center will host its first fundraising event on Friday, Feb. 28.
Come and dance the night away at the Daddy Daughter Dance, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Jourdanton Community Center. Attire is dressy. Bring your favorite girl (or girls) and make some priceless memories together. Targeted ages are 4-12.

Do Well Be Well with Hypertension on Feb. 28
The four-part series, Do Well Be Well with Hypertension, continues this week at the Methodist Hospital South Community Room in Jourdanton.
Remaining sessions are Feb. 28 and March 6 from 12-1 p.m.
The sessions are free and lunch is provided. Those interested in attending are asked to call (830) 569-0034 to register to ensure there are enough materials.
The series is made possible through Methodist Hospital South, Wesley Nurses and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension.
Poteet Strawberry Festival Coronation on Feb. 29
Find out who will be crowned King and Queen at the Poteet Strawberry Festival Coronation this Saturday, Feb. 29. The event will take place at the Poteet High School Auditorium at 7 p.m.
The 73rd annual Poteet Strawberry Festival will run April 3-5. Be sure to read the King and Queen candidates’ biographies on page 9A.
Republican Candidate Meet & Greet Feb. 29
Join us Saturday, Feb. 29 for a family friendly Republican Candidate Meet and Greet with an Atascosa County Young Republicans Informational. The event will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Jourdanton Pavilion, 1901 Campbell Ave.
Please join us as we learn more about our Republican candidates as they need our support this election year.
A sack lunch will be available for $5. Proceeds will benefit the start of The Atascosa County Young Republicans Group.
Jourdanton Chamber of Commerce BBQ & Auction March 1
The Jourdanton Chamber of Commerce will hold its Annual BBQ and Auction on Sunday, March 1 at St. Matthew’s Hall in Jourdanton.
A delicious BBQ Chicken Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will include ½ of a chicken, beans, potato salad and coleslaw with all the fixings, plus homemade desserts and iced tea.
Only 500 plates will be sold, so be sure and get your tickets early. Cost is $10 per ticket. All Chamber Directors have tickets for sale.
There will be a Live Auction beginning at noon, with lots of interesting items.
Silent Auction starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 1 p.m. There are always vintage items, plants, gift certificates, etc.
The “Buy It Now” Table has become a popular addition to our event. You can just pick something off the table and pay for it and take it with you.
Come out and support this worthwhile event. It is the main fundraiser for the Jourdanton Chamber of Commerce. You will have a great lunch, visit with old friends and make new friends. See you all there on Sunday, March 1!
Senior Day on March 2
Local senior citizens (age 50 or older) are invited to the next Senior Fun Day on Monday, March 2 at the Pleasanton Civic Center. Come and try your luck at Loteria and bring a $1 prize. The activity on March 9 will be Yahtzee.
The weekly Senior Days are free and sponsored by the Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Department and the Pleasanton Express. The events are hosted by Dana Selby and generally held from 10 a.m. to noon.
Country music dance with Most Wanted Band
Shine up your boots and get ready for the American Legion’s second ever country music dance with the Most Wanted Band on March 7.
The dance will take place at the American Legion Hall, 1404 Zanderson Ave. in Jourdanton, from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Tickets are $10 per person and $5 for Active Duty Military with ID. BYOB (no glass containers) and the American Legion will be selling set-ups and concession style foods and snacks.

Free Women’s Entrepreneurship Bootcamp
Workforce Solutions Alamo (WSA) will host a monthly series of no-cost, one-day Women’s Entrepreneurship Bootcamps. Sessions will be February- June, both in English and Spanish, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The workshops will take place at the UTSA Downtown Campus and will be webcast to Coastal Bend College in Pleasanton. These entrepreneurship bootcamps are designed to help womenowned businesses grow in the Alamo Area.
The English sessions are set for: March 30, May 18 and July 13.
The Spanish sessions are: April 27, June 22 and July 27.
This is made possible through a partnership with the UTSA Small Business Development Center Network, The Alamo Colleges Central Texas Technology Center, Coastal Bend College, and the Hondo Economic Development Council.

Our Daily Bread Food Pantry at First Baptist Church in Poteet will be open Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 9-11 a.m. The church is located at 437 Ave. D in Poteet.
Charlotte Town Hall Meeting March 1
The City of Charlotte will be holding a Town Hall Meeting next Wednesday, March 4 at Davenport Park starting at 6:30 p.m.
Residents are invited and highly encouraged to attend this meeting where they wil hear from the city council, employees and contractors about the water issues and upcoming water projects on the Old Tin Man water tower.
