Country dance to raise scholarship funds
Dance to the music of Brad Jenschke and Neon Ranch Band, all for a good cause!
On Saturday, Feb. 1, Atascosa American Legion Post 436 in Jourdanton will host the band for their first ever Classic Country Dance from 8 p.m. to midnight. Proceeds will be used to establish scholarship funds for all Atascosa County youth and support local veterans.
Admission is $10 at the gate. Admission for Active Duty Military with ID is $5.
BYOB, no glass containers. Concession stand available for food and set-ups. Ice chests limited to 12 can capacity. No sodas or food allowed in ice chests, as there will be a concession stand on the premises.

Friends of Cody Isaac BBQ Benefit Feb. 1
The friends of Cody Isaac will have a BBQ Chicken Benefit to-go plate sale to help with the expenses related to his hospitalizations.
He suffered multiple seizures Oct. 3 of last year and was hospitalized and sedated for five weeks in order to receive the muchneeded treatment to stop the seizures. Cody has since been transferred to a rehabilitation facility in Castroville as he is having to learn how to stand and walk again.
The money made from the benefit will help defray the cost of his rehabilitation, travel and living expenses. Pre-sale tickets are available. You may contact Rene Walker at 830-570-5959 or Abby Isaac at 830-783-7088 to purchase them.
They will serve a to-go BBQ Chicken Quarter plate for $10 on Saturday, Feb. 1 from noon to 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Jourdanton Fellowship Hall. You may pick up your plates at the fellowship hall entrance off of Campbell Street.
NFL star William Green in Tilden on Feb. 2
From an orphan to a NFL star… William Green will be in Tilden this Super Bowl weekend. There will be two opportunities to hear from him on Feb. 2.
On Sunday morning at 10:45 a.m. at Tilden Baptist Church, Green will share his story and his testimony of how he got to where he is today. His life story just might change yours.
Then… what better way to watch the big game than with someone who’s played on grid iron! Sunday at 4:30 p.m., the fun will begin at the Tilden Community Center for the biggest watch party in the county. Good food, good fellowship!
Senior Day on Feb. 3
The next Senior Fun Day is set for Monday, Feb. 3 with a Movie Day. The activity on Feb. 10 will be Valentine Bingo. Bring a $1 Valentine prize. The activity on Feb. 17 will be Tailgate Games.
Local senior citizens (50 or older) are invited to the weekly Senior Fun Days held Mondays at the Pleasanton Civic Center. Senior Days are free and sponsored by the Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Department and the Pleasanton Express. The events are hosted by Dana Selby and generally held at 10 a.m.
As part of the American Legion’s campaign “Let’s Get Moving Atascosa,” they will host free linedancing classes every Tuesday. Join in on the fun 6-7:30 p.m. at the American Legion, 1404 Zanderson Ave. in Jourdanton (Highway 16, near the car wash).
The event is open to the public, so get your boots on and come on out.
Please note they are not professional dancers. If there are any professionals out there, the legion post would love to have you join them at this fun event.
Meet the Candidates Feb. 4 in Campbellton
Come out and meet and greet the candidates running for office in Atascosa County.
The event will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 4, from 6-7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 365 St. Francis Ave. in Campbellton.
Candidates participating are: Atascosa County Sheriff: David Soward (incumbent), Rick Luna and Tina Egleston; Constable, Precinct 4: Bill Meadows (incumbent), David Douglas and Rex Newman Jr.
There will also be an update on county-wide voting from Atascosa County Judge Bob Hurley.
The event may be moved to Campbellton Hall pending renovations. Each candidate will be given a chance to speak. This event is free and open to everyone.
EDC Open Forum
The City of Pleasanton Economic Development Corporation invites the public to attend a Meet and Greet Tuesday, Feb. 4. The event will run from 6-8 p.m. at the Pleasanton Civic Center, 115 N. Main St. in Pleasanton.

Valentines Paint Party in Poteet Feb. 8
Have you ever wanted to paint? Well, this is a fun opportunity to try.

Peace for the Pieces Garden Party Feb. 8
Attention parents of special needs children and teens, you are invited to a Garden Party on Saturday, Feb. 8 at Coughran Hall. The event begins at 11:30 a.m. with tea and brunch served, followed by a Tea Dance! Dress attire is Sunday Best.
Peace for the Pieces Friday Social Group is a group formed for highfunctioning special needs young adults and teens in Pleasanton and the surrounding area.

Stop by the Pleasanton Public Library at 115 N. Main St. and celebrate Valentine’s Day.
On Feb. 11, they will have a craft and storytime for toddlers at 10 a.m. Then join them on Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. for the library’s Valentine Chocolate Recipe Swap. Please bring a sample of your favorite chocolate recipe to share and a copy of the recipe, for the library’s cookbook.

Free event for couples on Feb. 11 at First Baptist
Local married couples are invited to “Ignite: A night of enrichment to boost your marriage in time for Valentine’s.”
The free event is set for Tuesday, Feb. 11, from 7-9 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Pleasanton. The church is located at 400 N. Reed St. The event is being hosted by various churches from the Atascosa Churches Alliance.
There will be speakers on issues in marriage, with some table discussion time. There will be snacks and door prizes. Each couple will receive a fun goodie bag that will enhance the couple’s Valentine’s date or whenever they have their next date.

Cupid’s 5K & 1 Mile Heart Walk in Poteet
Join Tri-City Road Warriors on Saturday, Feb. 15, for their Cupid’s 5K and 1 Mile Heart Walk. The event will take place at the Poteet Strawberry Festival grounds. Start time is 7:30 a.m. for the 1 Mile Heart Walk, while the Cupid’s 5K will start at 8 a.m.
Everyone is invited to come along as you run and walk for a strong heart, healthier mind and have fun getting your fitness on.
Registration cost is $14 for ages 10-80 and older and $12 for children ages 5-9.

Active Shooter Response Training Feb. 20
The office of Constable Mike Mares, Atascosa County Precinct 1, cordially invites you to attend Active Shooter Response Training which will be held at St. Andrews Catholic Church Parish Hall. The seminar will be on Feb. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The church is located at 626 Market St. in Pleasanton. Instructor will be Deputy Chief Harry Jimenez.
Participants will learn about disaster response; how to prepare for and respond to being trapped inside a building during an active shooter event; and steps they can take to assist responding law enforcement and to limit casualties. The training is free of charge and open to the public.
Get Freezin’ for a Reason at Polar Bear Plunge
Are you tough enough to take a Polar Bear Plunge to support the Pleasanton Volunteer Fire Department?
The Pleasanton Parks and Recreation and the Pleasanton VFD are holding the first Polar Bear Plunge at the Pleasanton City Pool on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m.
Parks and Rec and Pleasanton VFD are challenging local organizations to pledge as a group and take the plunge together! In addition to the winter water, there will be ice added to the pool to make the water a little extra chilly.
After all pledgers complete their plunge, there will be a Splash Bash with s’mores, coffee, hot cocoa and activities to continue on the fun.
All proceeds will benefit Pleasanton VFD and will be presented in the form of a check after all donations are made. The minimum pledge for this event is $25 for participants; however, all donations are still welcome and can be dropped off at the Pleasanton Civic Center.
