Charlotte Library to welcome Dennis Blocker

This Wednesday, Dec. 18, the Charlotte Public Library will welcome author Dennis Blocker from 6:30- 8:30 p.m.

Blocker will be joined by his son and will share a presentation on his recent book, “The Dogs I Have Known in Two Wars.”

This book covers his experiences and training in Iraq and his second book will come out next year.

Those 13-years-old and older are invited to this event. There will be light refreshments and Blocker will be bringing books and shirts that will be available for purchase.

Winter fun continues at the Pleasanton Library

On Thursday, Dec. 19 at 1 p.m., come by the Pleasanton Library for a Christmas Cookie Recipe Swap. Please bring a batch of your favorite Christmas cookies to share and a copy of your recipe to add to the library’s cookbook.

Then on Friday, Jan. 3, bring the kids by for a movie at the Civic Center at 10 a.m. and watch what happens as our favorite grump and his faithful dog steal Christmas. For more information, please call the library at (830) 569-5901.

FUMC Food Pantry

The Food Pantry at First United Methodist Church is open every Monday and Wednesday serving families from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. They have given food to upwards of 40 families each day recently.

If you wish to donate food items, you can drop them off at the church office or during pantry hours. The church is located at 420 N. Main St. in Pleasanton.

FBC Jourdanton Food Pantry

First Baptist Church of Jourdanton holds a monthly food pantry for Atascosa residents. They have a great group of volunteers who help make their distribution on the third Saturday of every month possible.

They start at 9 a.m., but are limited to distributing to 90 families.

FBC Jourdanton is located at 515 Zanderson Ave.

Senior Day break

Due to the holidays, there will not be Senior Fun Day at the Pleasanton Civic Center on Dec. 23 or Dec. 30.

Senior Days are free and sponsored by the Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Department and the Pleasanton Express. The events are hosted by Dana Selby.

Christmas Story Contest

The Pleasanton Express invites its readers to enter its annual “Brush Country Christmas Story” Contest.

Stories are limited to a maximum of 750 words and the deadline for receiving entries is at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20.

The story can be fiction or true; humorous or serious. The Pleasanton Express will pay the two winners $50 each– one for the serious story category and one for the humorous story category.

The Pleasanton Express will publish the two winning stories in the Dec. 25 edition. Other entries may appear in the following issue as space permits, or online.

The stories must be the original work of the author and must be told in the author’s own words.

Please include your name, address and day and evening contact phone numbers. You will also need to indicate the category you are enteringserious or humorous.

Comedy Show at Cactus Garden on Dec. 21

Join The Cactus Garden Restaurant as they end the year with a blast!

Pack the house on Dec. 21 as Eric T Comedy presents “Showcase in the Desert” from 8-10 p.m. Entertainers will be Eric T., Duck EZ, Symply Courtney, Shana B and Trumaine B.
