CCSCT seeks volunteers

Community Council of South Central Texas (CCSCT) looks for volunteers on the first Friday of every month to hand out food boxes to the elderly. They start at approximately 10 a.m. and stop until they run out.

CCSCT is located at 1220 Simmons Ave. in Jourdanton. Call 830-767-2019 for details.

FUMC Food Pantry

Along with toys, food is a much needed gift this holiday season.

The Food Pantry at First United Methodist Church is open every Monday and Wednesday serving families from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. They have given food to upwards of 40 families each day recently.

The top 10 requested food items are canned fruit, refried beans, cereal, flour, sugar, hearty soups, saltine crackers, canned chicken, jelly and chili.

Please consider grabbing some items on your next trip to the store. You can drop items off at the church office or during pantry hours. The church is located at 420 N. Main St. in Pleasanton.

FBC Poteet Food Pantry

Mark your calendar for Wednesday, Dec. 11, when First Baptist Church of Poteet will open their food pantry. The event will begin at 9 a.m. and will be their only food pantry event for the month. The church is located at 437 Ave D in Poteet.

FBC Jourdanton Food Pantry

First Baptist Church of Jourdanton holds a monthly food pantry for Atascosa residents. They have a great group of volunteers who help make their distribution on the third Saturday of every month possible.

They start at 9 a.m., but are limited to distributing to 90 families.

They operate on congregation contributions and donations from the community. In the past, they have been recipients of food drives from the local post office, Jourdanton Methodist Hospital South cereal drive and food drives from Jourdanton ISD. They are also a part of San Antonio Food Bank and the Feeding America program with the local Walmart. Together, they serve over 250 individuals that represent over 90 families each month.

FBC Jourdanton is located at 515 Zanderson Ave.

Entrepreneur and Business Start-up Workshop

The City of Pleasanton and EMC Strategy Group, LLC will hold an Entrepreneur and Business Start-up Workshop on Dec. 5, at Coastal Bend College in Pleasanton, from 12-1 p.m.

Workshop topics will include registration through the Internal Revenue Service, Texas Secretary of State, Texas Comptroller’s Office, Systems for Award Management (SAM), and Dun & Bradstreet DUNS Number. These registrations are required when seeking local, state and federal procurement opportunities.

The City of Pleasanton and EMC Strategy Group are also offering free business mentoring services to Pleasanton residents, which include business plan development, budget and finance, marketing and branding and assistance in seeking working capital through SBA approved lenders.

Purse with a Purpose at Begin Again Thrift Store on Dec. 8

In the season of giving, the public is invited to give to the Safer Path women in shelter. Help them bring joy to these survivors by donating a purse, beauty products, stationery, gift cards, inspirational books or jewelry.

On Sunday, Dec. 8, stop by the Begin Again Thrift Store with your donation for Purse with a Purpose from 3-5 p.m. You can also enjoy free drinks and appetizers!

Begin Again Thrift Store is located at 201 N. Main St. in Pleasanton.

The event is being hosted by Safer Path Family Violence Shelter. With your donation, we can help make the holidays special. Eat, drink and donate!

Blood Drive Battle

The community is encouraged to take part in the Blood Drive Battle, Jourdanton Rotary Club/ Jourdanton Chamber of Commerce vs. the Pleasanton Rotary Club.

The town who gets the most pints of blood donated wins.

The Pleasanton Rotary Club blood drive is set for Thursday, Dec. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pleasanton Civic Center, 115 N. Main St. in Pleasanton. The Jourdanton Rotary Club/ Jourdanton Chamber of Commerce blood drive will follow on Tuesday, Dec. 17, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Jourdanton Community Center/Library, 1101 Campbell Ave.

Donors at both events will receive a free H-E-B gift card. All presenting donors at both events, whether you end up being able to donate or not, will be entered into a raffle prize drawing.

Local art students are currently designing a traveling award for the winner. The artwork will be on display at the blood drives and donors can vote on their favorite poster. After the winner is selected in each city, an overall winner will be named.

Blue Santa Party Dec. 14

Join Poteet High School senior and 2019 Poteet Strawberry Festival Prince Aidan Denson as he celebrates his 18th birthday with the Poteet Leos Club and Poteet Rotary Club on Saturday, Dec. 14. The celebration will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight at the Poteet Lions Pavilion off of Highway 16.

Dress in your favorite 80s attire and dance to the music of SA Lights. Entry fee is one new, unwrapped toy for children.
