FBC Poteet Food Pantry

First Baptist Church of Poteet will have a food pantry on Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 9-11 a.m. The church is located at 437 Ave. D in Poteet.

Atascosa Co. Sheriff’s Office & Jail Open House

The community is invited to the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office and Jail Open House this Friday, Nov. 15. Join them at 10 a.m. as they celebrate the completion of the threeyear expansion project.

The ribbon cutting is at 10 a.m. with guided group tours from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. The jail is located at 1108 Campbell Ave. in Jourdanton.

FBC Jourdanton Food Pantry

First Baptist Church of Jourdanton holds a monthly food pantry for Atascosa residents. The next distribution date is this Saturday, Nov. 16. They start at 9 a.m., but are limited to distributing to 90 families.

They have a great group of volunteers who help make their distribution on the third Saturday of every month possible.

They operate on congregation contributions and donations from the community. In the past, they have been recipients of food drives from the local post office, Jourdanton Methodist Hospital South cereal drive and food drives from Jourdanton ISD. They are also a part of San Antonio Food Bank and the Feeding America program with the local Walmart. Together, they serve over 250 individuals that represent over 90 families each month.

FBC Jourdanton is located at 515 Zanderson Ave.

Jourdanton Cops for Kids donation boxes

Every year, the Jourdanton Police Department puts on their Cops for Kids event. Cops for Kids provides gifts and a meal to children and families who are less fortunate.

They will be putting donation boxes out on Saturday, Nov. 16 throughout Jourdanton. They are also accepting any type of donations for the event. While the event gets bigger every year, they provide to those in need.

Keep an eye out for collection boxes this holiday season and consider donating a new, unwrapped toy to help the department assist local families this Christmas season.

CASA seeks donations

CASA of South Texas is always looking for gift donations for the Christmas season, so that their volunteers have that something special to take to their CASA kids during December visits.

Donations are especially sought for any time after Thanksgiving, before Dec. 15. All donations are greatly appreciated! If you would like to assist, you can contact CASA at 830- 569-4696.

Senior Fun Day Nov. 18

Local senior citizens (50 or older) are invited to the free, weekly Senior Days at the Pleasanton Civic Center each Monday.

The next Senior Fun Day will be Monday, Nov. 18 at the Pleasanton Civic Center at 10 a.m. The day’s activity will be bingo. Please bring a $1 prize.

Senior Days are free and sponsored by the Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Department and the Pleasanton Express. The events are hosted by Dana Selby.

Holiday activities at the Pleasanton Library

Stop by the Pleasanton Library this November for some fun holiday activities.

Join them on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 1 p.m. for their Recipe Swap Potluck. Please bring your favorite Thanksgiving side and a copy of your recipe for our cookbook.

Then on Nov. 25, bring the kids by for a movie at the Civic Center at 10 a.m. and join a group of toys as they set off on an adventure.

Also, don’t miss their Thanksgiving stories and craft during Toddler Time on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 10 a.m. For more information, please call the library at (830) 569-5901.

Turkey Trot 2 Mile Fun Run in Poteet Nov. 23

Join the Tri-City Road Warriors and the Poteet Rotary for their first ever Turkey Trot 2 Mile Fun Run, on Saturday, Nov. 23. The Run/Walk will start promptly at 7:30 a.m. on the Poteet Strawberry Festival grounds.

Cost to enter is $8. Drop off registration and check at Cricket Wireless, located at 8755 N. State Hwy. 16 in Poteet or the Poteet Public Library. Make checks out to D&W Leal Creations.

Prize giveaways and medals to the first 50 finishers. You do have to be present to win the prizes.

Please note that this event will go on rain or shine. However, in the event of lightning or icy road conditions, it will be cancelled.

Main Street Outreach Thanksgiving Dinner

Main Street Outreach will once again open their hearts this holiday season, as they prepare their annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Nov. 28.

They would like to offer individual turkey plate dinners to anyone who would like one, free of charge. Plates will need to be picked up at St. Andrew Catholic Church Parish Hall on Market Street starting at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day. They will stop serving promptly at 11 a.m. This is where the food is prepared and picked up.

Meals can also be delivered.

Thanksgiving meal forms can be picked up at First Baptist Church. Ask for Jane.

Deadline to turn in the meal forms is no later than Friday, Nov. 22.

Volunteers prepare this Thanksgiving Dinner for county residents free of charge to the elderly, low-income, and homeless families.

Volunteers needed

Event organizers are looking for volunteers to help on Tuesday, Nov. 26 to help unload supplies and to move them to the church hall, and on Wednesday, Nov. 27, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon to prepare the food.

On Thanksgiving Day, volunteers start preparing at 5 a.m. until they finish, which is around noon.

Volunteer duties the day of Thanksgiving consist of making plates to deliver, delivery drivers, handing out plates for pick up, and clean up.

Ham Jam on Nov. 30

The City of Pleasanton and The Navigators are teaming up for the first ever Ham Jam Under the Lights on Nov. 30.

This will mark the first Skate Jam event held in the city’s new skate park! Join them at the Pleasanton River Park, starting at 5 p.m. for fun and a little competition. Bob Byrd will share the journey and how they have arrived where they are now.

County Line Community Band concerts set

The County Line Community Band will present “An American Christmas” on Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church. The church is located at 626 Market St. in Pleasanton. This concert is being sponsored by the Longhorn Museum.

The band will also perform “An American Christmas” on Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. at the University of the Incarnate Word, Luella Bennack Music Center. UIW is located at 4301 Broadway in San Antonio.

Both concerts are free and donations are always appreciated. Conductor is Toby Knight and president is Todd Phillips.

Charlotte Elementary Christmas Gift Drive

This year, Charlotte ISD would like to inspire their elementary students to give back. They are also asking the community to participate in their Christmas Gift Drive for residents at local nursing homes.

They are asking for donations such as: blankets, socks with grips, slippers, lotion, body spray, deodorant, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, holiday treats, books, winter hats and gloves.

Items must be collected by Dec. 6. Please turn in all donations to the Charlotte Elementary Library.

Pleasanton AA Group meets at 914 Ohio St. in Pleasanton, on Mondays at 5:45 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m.

Pleasanton New Horizons Narcotics Anonymous group meets at 914 Ohio St. in Pleasanton on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and Thursdays at 7 p.m.

The Poteet New Beginnings Alcoholics Anonymous Group meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, located at 274 Avenue H in Poteet. They meet in the classroom next to the church’s office.

Pictures with Santa

Santa is coming to Methodist Hospital South in Jourdanton on Saturday, Dec. 7. This is a free community event set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

December 8 Christmas Party

The St. Luke’s Altar Society will host their annual Christmas baked goods and holiday gifts sale at St Luke’s Church Hall Sunday, Dec. 8, at 11:30 a.m. This is a great opportunity to buy delicious homemade baked goods and Christmas gifts for family and friends. A light lunch and a special appearance of Santa and Mrs. Claus will take place. All ages are welcome to join us for this joyous event.

St. Luke’s church is located at 3930 FM 536. Take exit 117 off IH 37, just north of Pleasanton. Mass will be celebrated at the church at 10:30 before the event.
