Business Tax Workshop

The City of Pleasanton and EMC Strategy Group, LLC will hold a Small Business Tax Workshop on Nov. 6, from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., at the Pleasanton Civic Center.

This workshop is open to all area businesses. The workshop will feature important tax tips for small businesses including changes to the tax code that will impact businesses during the 2020 filing deadlines.

The workshop will also include federal (Internal Revenue Service) and state (Texas Comptroller) filing requirements and deadlines.

Each year hundreds of thousands of small businesses fail to write off business expenses, charitable contributions, and approved deductions. These deductions include office equipment, phone and internet business expenses, rent, insurance, etc.

Senior Fun Day Nov. 11

The next Senior Fun Day will be Monday, Nov. 11 at the Pleasanton Civic Center at 10 a.m. Come on by for a game of Yahtzee.

 

 

Senior Days are free and sponsored by the Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Department and the Pleasanton Express. The events are hosted by Dana Selby.

Local senior citizens (50 or older) are invited to the free, weekly Senior Days at the Pleasanton Civic Center each Monday.

Jeff S. Bray book signing to benefit Jourdanton ISD Food Locker

This Thursday, Nov. 7, from 6-8 p.m. the Jourdanton Community Library will welcome local author, Jeff S. Bray for a book signing. The event will benefit the Jourdanton ISD Food Locker.

The first 50 kids to donate a nonperishable food item will receive a free signed copy of “Elissa the Curious Snail.”

Donations requested are nonperishable, single serve items that are easily prepped and can be discreetly carried home in their backpack.

Bray released “The Five Barred Gate,” a dystopian suspense novel for adults, on Sept. 4.

 

 

Read for the Record

Join the Poteet Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 7 as they Read for the Record to support early literacy for every child. At 4 p.m. the library will present a reading of, “Thank You, Omu!” by Oge Mora.

PHS Project Grad benefit

The Pleasanton High School Class of 2020 Project Graduation will hold a Rummage Sale on Nov. 9 at Dowdy’s Real Estate from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Anyone wanting to donate can bring items on Nov. 7 from 4:30-6 p.m. to the Main Street entrance of Dowdy’s.

Candidate Filing Party

Saturday, Nov. 9 is the first day that local candidates (except Precinct Chairs) can file for a place on the March 3, 2020 Primary ballot.

To assist candidates in filing their ballot applications, the Republican Party of Atascosa County is hosting a Filing Party from 9 – 11 a.m. at the Cancun Restaurant, at 1411 Jiffy Blvd in Jourdanton on Saturday, Nov 9.

Amanda Beltran from the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office has graciously agreed to be available to notarize applications. Checks for filing fees should be made payable to the Atascosa County Republican Party or ACRP. Hope to see you there. The last day to file for a place on the ballot is Monday, Dec. 9, 2019.

 

 

Paws For A Cause Nov. 9

The public is invited to Paws For a Cause on Saturday,

Nov. 9 at the Pleasanton River Park.

Join Safer Path Family Violence Shelter and the Pleasanton

Parks and Recreation Department as they raise awareness on dog health and safety, as well as the relationship between pet abuse and domestic violence.

The schedule includes:

 9-10 a.m. 5 K Fun Run and 1 Mile Walk.

 9-12 p.m. Vendors Open

 10:15-11:30 a.m Dog Show Contest

 11:30-11:45 a.m. Awards

 9-12 p.m. Dog Zone

If you wish to register for the 5K Run, 1 Mile Walk or Dog Costume Contest, please email tgarza@pleasantontx.gov or call 830-569-5904.

You will be able to sign up for the run/walk the day of the event. The run/ walk is completely free and it will follow the same route as the Cowboy Gallop. Walkers will go to the .5 mile mark and then go back to the starting line.

There will also be music, food trucks, adoptions, photo booth ops, bounce house, obstacle course and dog activities. Some of the organizations that will be present are: Pleasanton Animal Clinic, DPS K9 Unit, Atascosa County Animal Control, Atascosa Animal Allies, Gizmo’s Gift, Jourdanton PD K9 Unit and Spay Neuter Assistance Program. Pastor Johnny Arrington from the Methodist Church will be there for the blessing of the animals.

Please note that all owners that plan on bringing their dog to this event, must provide a copy of your pet’s rabies vaccine certificate.

Christine Turkey Dinner

Christine will host its 59th annual Christine Homecoming turkey dinner and celebration this Sunday, Nov. 10 at St. Ignatius Catholic Hall.

Everyone is invited to share in the celebration, which has served as a fundraiser for community projects and has offered past and present residents a chance to renew ties with family, friends and classmates since the 1960s.

Last year’s proceeds provided $500 scholarships to six Christine-area college students. Over the past six years, the fund has contributed $36,300 to local students who are furthering their educations.

This year’s reunion will feature crafts, a silent auction, and a raffle featuring a colorful quilt created by Christine native Lovona Howard. Entertainment will include a roping in the community arena, weather permitting. Roping books open at 11:30 a.m., with draw at 12:30. Ropers can contact Marissa Johnson at 850- 398-2225 for additional roping information.

Mark your calendars now to come home to Christine. Serving begins at 10:30 a.m. All plates are $10 and include turkey, dressing, and all the trimmings, including tea and homemade desserts.

American Legion 436 Veterans BBQ Fundraiser

On Nov. 10, Atascosa County American Legion Post 436 will host a Veterans

BBQ Fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Barbecue brisket, chips and a drink can be purchased for $8. BBQ by Mike Mueller.

Old Rock Baptist Church Descendant’s Day Celebration

Old Rock Baptist Church will hold a Descendant’s Day Celebration on Nov. 10, to include honoring of the veterans.

Morning services are at 10:45 a.m. followed by dinner on the grounds. Please bring a covered dish and a friend and join the celebration.

Pleasanton AA Group meets at 914 Ohio St. in Pleasanton, on Mondays at 5:45 p.m. and Saturdays at 10 a.m.

Pleasanton New Horizons Narcotics Anonymous group meets at 914 Ohio St. in Pleasanton on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. and Thursdays at 7 p.m.

The Poteet New Beginnings Alcoholics Anonymous Group meets Thursdays at 7 p.m. at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church, located at 274 Avenue H in Poteet. They meet in the classroom next to the church’s office.

December 8 Christmas Party

The St Luke’s Altar Society will host their annual Christmas baked goods and holiday gifts sale at St Luke’s Church Hall Sunday, Dec. 8, at 11:30 a.m. This is a great opportunity to buy delicious homemade baked goods and Christmas gifts for family and friends. A light lunch and a special appearance of Santa and Mrs. Claus will take place. All ages welcome to join us for this joyous event.

St Luke’s church is located at 3930 FM 536. Take exit 117 off IH 37, just north of Pleasanton. Mass will be celebrated at the church at 10:30 before the event.
