ACCEPT Sign Up thru December 5

Jeanne Ulrich and the ACCEPT committee are once again gearing up to make this year’s project another successful one for Atascosa County. Atascosa County residents in need of food and/or toys for Christmas are asked to apply. To be eligible, you cannot be receiving these items from other agencies or groups in the county. The last day to sign up is Sunday, December 5.

Blue Santa Donations

The Pleasanton Police Department is currently accepting applications and donations for the Blue Santa Program. While you are out doing your holiday shopping, please consider donating a new unwrapped toy to the Pleasanton Police Department Blue Santa Program. Donation boxes can be found at HEB, The UPS Store, El Castillo, Security State Bank, and the Pleasanton Police Department. To pick-up/ submit an application and for more information you may contact: Amie, Emika, or Samantha at (830) 569-5544.

Vintage in Verdi

The 3rd Annual Vintage in Verdi will take place Dec. 4-5, with over 50 unique vendors showcasing antiques, vintage, handcrafted, repurposed and unique goods. This year’s two day show opens at 3 p.m. with First Pickin’ Friday and closes at 6 p.m. Do not miss the funky hat contest Friday afternoon, along with a wine sampling, music and great food! Admission for Friday is $7.

On Saturday, the gates open at 9 a.m. with a full day of shopping, free kids Christmas craft and free pony rides, along with Christmas photos by Kristin Hildebrand Photography and great food and live music. Saturday’s admission is $2 or a toy donation to Toys for Tots! Saturday’s admission is 100 percent donated to the Verdi Community Center. The event takes place at 2045 FM-1784, Pleasanton. SGT Santa Project

The American Legion is sponsoring this event on Saturday, December 5 at 6 p.m. A meal will be served, Santa will be onsite and a live auction will take place. Proceeds from this event benefit their non-profit organization. Auction items, volunteers, and sponsors for food are needed. If you are interested in making a donation or helping, please contact the American Legion office at (830) 770-0201 or Commander Theresea Cruz at (915) 412-8354.

Lighted Christmas Parade

The Atascosa County Sheriff’s Posse will be holding the lighted parade on Saturday, December 5 through the city streets and starts and ends at the River Park. Come and see the festive lights and horses at 6:30 p.m. Entry forms may be picked up at the Pleasanton Express. For more information contact Debbie at (830) 569-5656.

Christmas in Charlotte

A Christmas parade, live music, and fireworks display will be held in Charlotte on Saturday, December 5. The Christmas Celebration will begin at 2 p.m. and end at 1 a.m. at Davenport City Park. The parade will kick off at 6:30 p.m. and the fireworks display will take place at 10 p.m. All money raised will benefit Davenport City Park. See the story, page A1 and ad for more information.

Charlotte 1st Annual Christmas Cookoff

Jourdanton Santa

Santa Claus will be arriving in Jourdanton on Monday, Dec. 7 at 6:00 PM. The Jourdanton Volunteer Fire Department will be delivering the jolly ol’ fellow around 6pm to the Jourdanton Library & Community Center. The lights on the beautiful Courthouse will be turned on by County Judge Bob Hurley and Santa. All the children will get to visit with Santa and have their picture taken, courtesy of Walgreens. Food and drinks will be available in the community center for purchase. There will be a craft table for the kids to work on a craft while they wait to see Santa. Numbers will be issued to see Santa so be sure and check in at the table by front door. Come out and bring the family, visit with Santa and stay for supper.

Poteet Christmas Village

Come to the Rotary Building at the Poteet Strawberry Festival grounds on Friday, December 4 thru Sunday, December 6 at 5:30 p.m. to see this year’s presentation of the Christmas Village. Each tour is 45 minutes long. You may also join in if you’d like to participate in the presentation.

Christmas Nativity Display

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pleasanton will be hosting the display on December 5 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on December 6 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Choirs will be singing traditional and seasonal Christmas hymns. All are welcomed to view the Christmas Devotional at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Living Nativity Presentation

First Presbyterian Church, located at 435 N. Bryant in Pleasanton, is presenting its Annual Living Tableau on December 11 and 12 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Tableau contains a manger scene, shepherds in the field, Wise Men riding larger than life camels, and an angel. The scenes change every half hour, and is a “drive-by” Nativity. Observers may enter the parking lot on the Bowling Alley side and exit on the Eagle Lube side.

Members and friends of First Presbyterian Church take part in the scenes. Once again, members of the Atascosa Christian Fellowship are assisting in the presentations. Anyone interested in participating in the Tableau are invited to come-costumes are provided and there are no lines to memorize!

The Ugly Sweater Bash

Art On Main Co-Op Creation invites everyone to The First Annual Ugly Sweater Bash in Historic Downtown Pleasanton on Saturday, December 12 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 217 1/2 N. Main Street (The Blue Building). This event is being held to encourage everyone to shop locally. Children may take photos with Santa from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. by a professional photographer for $5 a photo or you may bring your own camera. There will also be a Christmas Cookie Contest at 2 p.m. Those wishing to participate may drop off a half dozen requirement at 12 p.m. A Crazy Stocking Contest will be held at 3 p.m. and entries may be dropped off from now until the date of the event.

Argent Court Craft Fair

Reindeer Bucks Giveaway

The Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce and area merchants have joined forces to encourage shopping locally. Merchants are giving away a total of 25 gift certificates valued at $25. There are 10-$25, 3-$50, and 1-$100 gift certificates to be spent with local merchants this season. All you have to do is sign up at any participating business. The winner will be announced on Dec. 9.
