Jourdanton VFD Malvin Prasifka Cook-Off
The Jourdanton Volunteer Fire Department is holding its annual cook-off and fundraising event beginning May 20-22. The event takes place at the American Legion Hall in Jourdanton. Contest items to be judged are chicken, jackpot beans, pork spare ribs, brisket, and dessert. A two-day chili cook-off will also take place on Saturday and Sunday. Music will be provided by South Texas Rain Makers on Saturday night from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. For chili information you may contact Charlie Abshier at (830) 570-6307. The money raised will be used to maintain and purchase new equipment to better protect the citizens of Jourdanton, and all of Atascosa County.
“Only,Not Lonely”Scholarship Benefit
Get informed of the myths, struggles and accomplishments involved with being an “only child.” Organizer Eddie Martinez, a 1987 graduate of Pleasanton High School, is busy preparing for this scholarship fundraiser, set for Saturday, May 21, at Pavilion #3 at the Atascosa River Park in Pleasanton. It is located on the corner of Hunt and Colwell Street.
The event is set for 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. (possibly later) and the Texas Tone Rangers are scheduled to perform from 2-6 p.m. Fun activities will include a Motorcycle Bike Ride, carne guisada plate sale, silent auction, bake sale, horseshoe tournament, games and more. Funds will go towards a scholarship for one or two PHS graduates who are an only child.
