A special tribute section titled: #WeSeeYou- The Hero and the Human, will be published in the May 11 issue of the Pleasanton Express. This special section will honor Pleasanton, Jourdanton, Poteet and Lytle Police Departments, the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Public Safety, Game Wardens, and School Resource Officers. The goal of this special section is to give tribute to our local law enforcement officers and to tell them we see them as both humans and heroes and to thank them for putting their lives on the line daily, to keep our communities safe.

Day of Prayer at First Baptist Church

Join First Baptist Church in Pleasanton on Thursday, May 5 as they observe the National Day of Prayer. They will host a service at noon, with a free lunch to follow. The church is located at 400 N. Reed St.The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman.

11th Annual Buck Taylor SCTICA Benefit Team Roping

The 11th annual Buck Taylor SCTICA Team Roping will be held Saturday, May 7 at the Cowboy Fellowship arena, 561 Farm to Market Road 3350, Jourdanton. The roping will be held on Saturday, May 7 with #7 books opening at 10 a.m., roping at 11 a.m. Enter 1 draw 3 or enter open and draw 4. For #9 and #11 books open at 12 p.m., roping at 1 p.m. Enter 1 draw 3 or enter open and draw 4. #9 and #11 run together with separate short rounds. $100 per roper. No alcoholic beverages allowed on the grounds. There will be a silent auction and concessions available. Negative Coggins required. Jourdanton VFD Malvin Prasifka Cook-Off

The annual Jourdanton Volunteer Fire Department is holding its annual cookoff and fundraising event beginning May 20-22. The event takes place at the American Legion Hall in Jourdanton. Contest items to be judged are chicken, jackpot beans, pork spare ribs, brisket, and dessert. A two-day chili cook-off will also take place on Saturday and Sunday. Music will be provided by South Texas Rain Makers on Saturday night from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. For chili information you may contact Charlie Abshier at (830) 570- 6307.
