#Strawfest16 Photo Contest
During the Poteet Strawberry Festival (April 8-10), a photo contest will be taking place through our social media sites (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter). TAG us by mentioning @pe1909 in your Strawberry Festival photos and use the official contest hashtag #StrawFest16 on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter and you could win an awesome prize, as well as, your photo printed in our newspaper, a framed copy of your photo, and shared through social media for all followers to see. The Navigators of South Texas
Chili’s and The Navigators of South Texas have teamed up for a fundraiser. Pleasanton Chili’s wants you to allow them to do the cooking April 7, 13, 21 and 27. When you visit Chili’s on Wednesday or Thursday of this month, they will donate 15 percent of the event’s day sales to The Navigators of South Texas.
JHS Donkey Basketball Game
Hold on to your hats and grab a quick seat at the “Dairyland Donkey Basketball Show” on Sunday, April 10, starting at 2 p.m.! The event will be taking place at the Jourdanton High School Gym and will surely be some wild entertainment. In case you’re wondering what this event is about, it’s a game of basketball played on real, live donkeys. You may purchase advance tickets from members of the sponsoring organization or at JHS. Tickets will also be available at the gate. It will definitely be a circus-like show guaranteed to make you laugh until you cry. Go out and support the JISD senior class of 2016!
Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Bingo
Join us on Sunday, April 10th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Our Lady of Guadalupe church hall in Leming for .50¢ BINGO! Cool off after the Strawberry Festival and join us indoors! Prizes will include household items like dish soap, laundry detergent, 12pk sodas, waters, toilet paper, napkins, etc. There will be NO cash prizes. BINGO is 50¢ per game and players must be age 16 and up. We will also be selling popcorn, pickles, sodas, and nachos! Everyone is welcome we hope to see you there! Zumbathon
Come bust a sweat for a great cause on Wednesday, April 13! The Atascosa Family Crisis Center will be holding this fundraising event from 5:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at the Pleasanton Civic Center on 108 2nd Street. There will be great door prizes up for grabs and not to mention a great workout with Zumba Instructor, Cheryl Price. There’s a minimum donation of $5 to participate. Bring your friends and help assist the Atascosa Family Crisis Center!
Poteet ISD Science Fair & Stargazing Night
The Poteet Science Department will be sponsoring a Science Fair and Stargazing Night on Thursday, April 21 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Public viewing of the science fair’s projects will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. with an awards ceremony following. After the awards ceremony, there will be an opportunity for all to stargaze and learn about the stars and constellations in our night skies. It will be an educational and fun night for all!
Child Abuse Awareness Month
It’s April and that means it is “Child Abuse Prevention Month”! The City of Jourdanton and the Jourdanton Police Department are teaming with CASA and the Children’s Alliance of South Texas to raise awareness and give a voice to the victims of abuse. To learn more about how you can help in this battle check out the Children’s Alliance of South Texas website at www.cactx.org.
Pleasanton Little League Day at the Missions
Pleasanton Little League will have a night out with the Missions at Wolff Stadium on Saturday, May 14. It gives Pleasanton’s Little Leaguers an opportunity to represent their hometown and tak in a nice ball game. There will also be fireworks after the game. Plesanton Little League will be sitting in the same section and will be receiving recognition. Tickets are $15 and along with the purchase of each ticket you’ll receive a voucher for a free hot dog, chips and a soda. Money must be turned in by Sunday, April 10 to team managers or the concession stand. The Missions will also be honoring Darian Chapa of the SeaDogs at the game in a very special way! Support Pleasanton’s Little League and continue to show the strength and pride of our community!
