Oscar Vasquez Garza of Pleasanton passed away April 8, 2020, at the age of 87. He was born in Fashing on March 9, 1933, to Roque and Alejandra (Vasquez) Garza.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen (Hobrecht- Zabala) Garza; sons, Gilbert Zabala and wife Anna, Christopher J. Garza, Daniel R. Garza and wife Ty, Oscar Garza Jr. and wife Carol, Ernie Garza and wife Alisa and Ray Garza and wife Dorothy; daughters, Tammy A. Martinez and husband Jose, Yolanda Carrizales and husband Peter, Gloria Gould and husband Brodie, Rosa Harky and husband Tony, Diana Macy and husband Steven, Tina Rodriguez and husband Bobby and Alejandra Martinez and husband Ruben; brothers, Roque Garza and wife Hope and Ramon Garza; 50 grandchildren, 71 greatgrandchildren and six greatgreat grandchildren as well as his closest friend, Alex “Chando” Garcia.

Oscar is preceded in death by his son, Freddy R. Garza; daughter, Clara Soto; parents, Roque and Alejandra Garza; granddaughter, Faith Angel Zabala; brothers, Nicolas and Willie Garza; brothers-inlaw, Fidel Zabala and Henry Carter; and cousins and fellow bullhaulers, Juan Mejia, Charlie Mejia Sr. and Michael Mejia.

A memorial service in Oscar’s honor was held at Omega Church at 3737 Roosevelt Ave., San Antonio, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 10.
