Norman Yow

Norman Dan Yow passed away on February 7, 2017, at the age of 87 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Dan and Mamie Yow; his brothers, Bobby Yow and Jimmy Yow; sisters, Rosella Richey and Maxine Stolte; and son-in-law, Tommy Shearrer. Dan served our country in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. While his children were young he was very active in the local 4-H Club and supported their love for horses and traveled to many South Texas youth rodeos. Dan was a lifelong cowboy and was happiest while on horseback, either working cattle or helping in the rodeo arena at the Poteet Lions Club.

Dan is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Erwin Yow, son Johnny Yow (Mary), daughters, Sandra Wheeler (Larry), Sheryl Armstrong (Artie) and Sharon Shearrer. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Sheila Babb (Cody), Roper Yow (Amber), Rowdy Yow (Nikki), Jimmy Bartosh (Kandace), Jason Shearrer (Bridget), Jennifer Wheat (Chad), Brandy Smith (Clint), Bodie Armstrong (Lauren), Wesley Shearrer (Magen) and Matthew Shearrer (Amanda). Dan was also blessed with 23 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Nancy Yow.

  1. was held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton on Friday, February 10 from 2 – 8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5 – 7 p.m., followed by a graveside service at 10 a.m. at Rutledge Cemetery in Poteet on Saturday, February 11.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Rutledge Cemetery in Poteet or to the organization of your choice.
