Next Step Foot & Ankle Clinic is a local podiatry practice that has been serving this community for approximately 23 years. This clinic houses two podiatry medical specialists, Dr. Darren Silvester and Dr. Greg Larsen.
Dr. Silvester completed his podiatry training at California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco and surgical residency in Corona, California. He has been practicing podiatric medicine for over 25 years.
Dr. Greg Larsen completed his podiatry training at Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine in Miami, Florida. He did his surgical residency at the Jerry L Pettis Memorial Veterans Hospital in Loma Linda, California. Dr. Larsen has been at Next Step Foot & Ankle Clinic for about a year.
Dr. Larsen explained, “I did come about five years ago as a student and really loved what I saw from Dr. Silvester [and] from his staff.” He further elaborated, “I loved the environment, how they treated their patients, and that made me want to be a part of the team.”
The Next Step Foot & Ankle Clinic and Dr. Silvester have quite a history in Pleasanton. Dr. Silvester highlighted that their first practice in Pleasanton was in the building with Center Pharmacy. The office moved to a location near Hurley Funeral Home, then to their current office at 409 N. Bryant St. in Pleasanton.
Dr. Silvester built a flourishing medical practice and raised a family in the Pleasanton community. He pointed out that his kids attended Pleasanton High School. “Their hearts are still tied up in Pleasanton quite profoundly,” said Dr. Silvester. “We spent a lot of time going to high school sporting events and things like that.”
Next Step Foot & Ankle Clinic treats patients both in the clinic and surgical room. Both doctors work with patients of a variety of ages from less than a year old to elderly. Some of the most common cases that they treat is heel and nerve pain. In children, the doctors treat many athletic injuries and flat feet.
Dr. Silvester pointed out, “We also see a lot of kids with flat feet that have real trouble getting around. We are actually one of the few places in Texas that fixes those. Most guys will give them an arch support.” He further elaborated, “Sometimes it is not going to be very effective. You need to address the problem and fix it.”
Regarding surgical operation, Dr. Larsen pointed out, “We see our patients before surgery, for the surgery and we follow them afterwards closely to make sure they are doing better.”
Dr. Silvester added, “We follow them very closely. We take that commitment pretty strongly, doing anything on a patient, we want to make sure their results are what they are after.”
Next Step Foot & Ankle also invests a lot of time and money into innovative practices. Dr. Silvester explained, “I think the thing that sets us apart from other practitioners is our investment in education and technology. We have technology available to us that most other podiatry clinics, they just don’t want to spend the money on.”
Some of these special technologies includes their orthotic manufacturing device which uses a three-dimensional scanner and analysis device that measures how flexible a patient’s foot is when they walk across a platform. This device is accurate within half a millimeter.
Dr. Silvester explained, “That kind of precision was previously unheard of.”
This also includes their EST machine, which they use on patients with nerve pain, healing wounds or difficulty with chronic pain issues. Other technologies and innovative treatments are digital X-rays, ultrasounds, vascular testing, shock therapy, MSL laser therapy and more.
“Our patients enjoy a lot of advantages,” Dr. Silvester said.
Dr. Silvester sees patients on Tuesday in the Pleasanton clinic, and Dr. Larsen comes to Pleasanton on Thursday. The rest of the week they spend at their other clinic in Universal City or in surgery.
