Neil Martin Hastings passed away from this life on Monday, April 29, 2019 in Jourdanton. He was born on October 18, 1925 in San Antonio to O.N. and Kathryn (Boothe) Hastings.

Neil volunteered for the Army Air Corp. and served during World War II. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Trinity University in Natural Sciences. He was a manager for Southwestern (Ma) Bell/AT&T for over 40 years.

Neil was part of the “Greatest Generation” and no words can convey the gentility, humor, and generosity that are traits of this generation. He will be greatly missed.

He lived in Poteet on a farm for three years before residing at The Heights in Jourdanton.

Neil was a mason and a lifetime member of Anchor Lodge in San Antonio.

Neil wished his favorite dog, “Babe” to be buried with him and so, they are together. It seemed that all animals loved him.

Neil is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mary Frances Poythress Parrish Hastings and his parents. He is survived by his children, Curtis Hastings and Sharon Hastings Barnette and his grandchildren, Abigail Hastings, Kevin Hastings Barnette, Gina Marie Barnette McConnell and Neil Hastings Mortimer.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, May 1 at 5 p.m. at the Rutledge Cemetery on Rutledge Road, Poteet.
