San Antonio – The battle of the bullpens kept the Missions and Drillers to a close second game of their three game series.

Tulsa jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the second on Missions starter Hayden Beard on an RBI single from Kent Matthes that scored Ben Paulsen who led off the frame with a double.

The Missions took a 2-1 lead in their half of the second inning on a two-run homer by shortstop Jeudy Valdez that scored Cody Decker ahead of him. San Antonio then made it 3-1 as Reymond Fuentes singled home catcher Robert Kral. All three Missions runs were scored with two outs.

In the top of sixth, a Matthes fielder’s choice RBI scored Corey Dickerson bringing the game to a 3-2 Missions lead.  San Antonio answered back with a two run sixth inning as Kral’s sacrifice fly plated Rymer Liriano and T.J. Steele’s double allowed Jeudy Valdez to cushion the score at 5-2.

The Drillers threatened the Missions bullpen with two more runs in the eighth, but Daniel Stange got the save holding Tulsa to a scoreless ninth.  Hayden Beard earned the win and improves to 5-4 on the season.

The third and final game of the series is tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. Right-hander Cory Riordan (3-2, 4.02 ERA) gets the start for the Drillers while fellow righty and newly promoted Donn Roach (0-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his home debut for San Antonio.
