San Antonio – San Antonio ended the six game homestand with a 7-4 victory over the Arkansas Travelers, thanks to a couple long balls and some timely hitting.

The Missions used solo home runs from Carlos Sosa and Jake Blackwood in the third and fourth innings respectively to claim an early 2-0 lead that they wouldn’t surrender. The team has now hit 39 solo shots, 70 percent of their total home runs.

San Antonio reliever Eddie Kuntz made a spot start for the injured Mark Hardy going three innings, giving up three hits and recording two strikeouts.

The Missions plated another run in the fifth on an infield single by shortstop Dean Anna. Nate Freiman ended the inning by grounding out to Arkansas third baseman Renny Osuna to add to his recent struggles.

The San Antonio bullpen ended its scoreless inning streak at 26 and two-thirds when Arkansas first baseman Casey Haerther scored shortstop Jean Segura on an infield single to make the score 3-1.

For the second game in a row, San Antonio loaded the bases in the sixth inning. This time, however, they took advantage, bringing in two on a Reymond Fuentes single, and two more on a two-out dropped fly ball hit by Jaff Decker.

Arkansas tried to rally in the ninth scoring three runs off newcomer Michael Broadway, but it fell short as Haerther grounded out to shortstop Dean Anna to end the game. The win brings The Missions to 21-29 overall as San Antonio avoids being swept by the visiting Travelers who also end up at 21-29.

San Antonio heads out of town the next eight days to play the Springfield Cardinals and the Arkansas Travelers in Little Rock. The Mission’s next home game will be Wednesday, June 6 when they will take on the Frisco Roughriders, who boast a Texas League best 30-20 record.
