METHODIST HEALTHCARE SYSTEM ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT TO ACQUIRE SOUTH TEXAS REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER

Methodist Healthcare System, a partnership between HCA and Methodist Healthcare Ministries, announced an agreement to acquire South Texas Regional Medical Center from Community Health Systems. The transaction, which is subject to regulatory approval, is expected to close in the summer of 2017.

“The acquisition of South Texas Regional Medical Center aligns with Methodist Healthcare System’s goal of increasing access across the region to meet the health care needs of our rural communities in South Texas. The ability to offer our management, purchasing, labor and technological resources will help move South Texas Regional Medical Center to an even higher level of care for their patients,” states Jaime Wesolowski, president and CEO of Methodist Healthcare System.

The mission of Methodist Healthcare System is to provide exceptional patient care, which is reflected in recent recognition by external organizations. Four Methodist facilities received an “A” in the Spring 2017 Leapfrog Patient Safety grades. Methodist Stone Oak Hospital is the only CMS Five Star hospital in San Antonio. This dedication to exceptional patient care and safety is prevalent in all Methodist facilities.

Methodist is the market leader in health care services throughout South Texas; the acquisition allows the ownership of South Texas Regional Medical Center to remain local while expanding the network of care to all of the 26 facilities within the Methodist Healthcare System.

In 2000, South Texas Regional Medical Center opened at their current location in Jourdanton. STRMC was bought by Community Health Systems in 2001. The 67-bed hospital is one of Atascosa County’s largest employers.
