Meriam Alma Wier Kelley of Jourdanton, after several years of waging a courageous battle with Alzheimers, passed quietly into God’s total grace and serenity on Friday, January 22, 2017.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother Myrtie Merill Wier, her father JC Wier, her husband James, sons Doctor Dan Kelley and Doctor Rick Kelley, daughter-in-law Cherry Kelley, brothers Edison Wier, Mickey Wier, and sister Hallie Kimbrough.
Meriam is survived by two sons Doctor J Monroe Kelley of Jourdanton and Gerald Kelley of Vidor, Texas, eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Meriam Kelley was a sixth generation Texan; her family coming to Texas with Stephen F. Austin. She was born August 9, 1924 in Kountze, Texas. Meriam lived in the Beaumont, Texas, area for 56 years. She and James were married for 63 years. When James retired from Mobil Oil in 1980, they moved to Pleasanton.
Meriam was a highly respected educator. She taught at Vidor, Nederland and Pleasanton schools. She was very active in the community and at Saint Mathew Catholic Church. She thanked God each day for the joyful life he gave her and her family. She always said that she “had many happy days and very few sad days; that God had always been there for her and her loved ones.”
