The City of Pleasanton and Pleasanton Parks and Recreation Department with the San Antonio Food Bank are hosting a Mega Food Distribution this Saturday, March 20.
“The last couple of times, [SAFB] brought enough food for 400 households, so we are anticipating it to be in that range again, especially since many families are still struggling with setbacks from the winter storm,” said Tabitha Garza of Pleasanton Parks and Rec.
It is very important that families preregister online so SAFB brings an accurate amount of food to feed those in need.
To sign up for food, please go to www.pleasantontx. gov/news_ detail_ T6_ R163.php.
“I’ve been told by many that it’s difficult to preregister on a mobile device. Most often the preregistration works best on a desktop,” said Garza.
Pleasanton Parks and Rec recommends that folks visit the Pleasanton Public Library if they are in need of using a computer or call their office at 830-569-5904 and they will be happy to help.
The food drive will be held at the Pleasanton River Park starting at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. Families receiving food will need to enter the park entrance off Adams Street and are recommended to arrive early to get a good spot in line.
The Pleasanton River Park will be closed to the public from 7 a.m.-1 p.m. for the food distribution and reopen after.
Pleasanton Parks and Rec needs volunteers to help this Saturday.
“We usually aim to have 50 volunteers at the very least. There’s a lot of work to be done, so the more helping hands, the better,” said Garza. “Cafe Chris has been so gracious to donate food to feed all of our volunteers on Saturday. They are a staple in our community and their support means a lot to us.”
If you would like to volunteer this Saturday, please email Tabitha Garza at tgarza@pleasantontx. gov.
All volunteers are directed to come in through the Main Street entrance by 8:30 a.m. at the small pavilions for a briefing with the SAFB before getting started.
