Meals on Wheels is now delivering meals twice a week in Atascosa County. Meals on Wheels’ mission is to promote the dignity and independence of seniors who need nutritious meals, companionship and Alzheimer’s care. Meals on Wheels works to eliminate hunger, alleviate isolation and foster independence among seniors, in partnership with volunteers and the community.

Meals on Wheels is currently serving 125 clients in Atascosa County, 38 clients in Pleasanton. Depending on where they live in the county, some will get their meals on Tuesdays and Fridays and others will get their meals on Wednesdays and Fridays.

The program is open for people to refer themselves or are referred by a neighbor. The best way to refer someone or yourself for Meals on Wheels services is to apply online at www.mowsatx.org/referral. Just click “Sign up for Services” and complete the form or call (866) 80-MOWSA (866-806-6972). A doctor or case-worker, family or friends can fill out the form on their behalf as well.

Eligibility for this service is holistic and not solely based on income or age. Those who live in Atascosa County that are unable to cook for themselves, leave their home, or drive may be eligible for Meals on Wheels meal delivery service.

If someone does not fit this description, but needs assistance, they are encouraged to apply or call. Meals on Wheels knows that every situation is different and evaluates requests case by case.
