Kate did it again with a 10K win
Kate McNeill, Junior at Pleasanton High School has done it again. For the second time, Kate has been awarded the $10K scholarship for the Horse Skillathon at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.
“Congratulations Kate,” said her mom, Shalene McNeill who serves as the Executive Director Nutrition Research at National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. “We are blown away by your dedication and poise. Thank you San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo for these generous awards. Karen Dee Yerkes Harris you have been there every step of the way and are a blessing to our community.”
Kate continues to be a champ in the arena, on the soccer field as part of Pleasanton Women’s Soccer and in school as an academic achiever and part of the recent winners at the Pleasanton High School BPA competition.
“I am very appreciative for the opportunity that San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo gives to earn scholarships like these, said Kate. “I am thankful for my mom who pushed me to reach my maximum potential. I want to attend Texas A&M University to study Animal Science then go to dental school. I’ve been doing competition for seven years. This is my second 10K scholarship to win through the horse skillathon.”
Karen Harris is the leader of the Atascosa County 4-H Horse Club which has brought home more than 60K in scholarships funds in the last 12 years. Harris is a graduate of Pleasanton High School and is the wife of Jim Harris, who has been for 35 years the McMullen County High School FFA Advisor and Agri-Science teacher.
“Kate stands out from the crowd,” said Harris. “She has a brilliant mind and I am blessed to work with her. This Skillathon is geared toward extremely academically gifted youth who will all go on to most likely become vets or some advanced degreed leadership career roles. Kate is one of the hardest working teenagers. She is incredibly rare and is of impeccable character plus she cares deeply about others. I have known her for 10 years and she is the president of my Atascosa County 4-H Horse Club.”
