McMullen County sweeps Bruni, advances to regional tournament

The McMullen County volleyball team is headed to the Region IV-1A tournament in Brenham.

The Cowgirls eased their way to a 25-13, 25-16, 25-4 sweep of Bruni in the regional quarterfinals Monday night at Freer High School.

McMullen County will play its regional semifinal match at 4 p.m. Friday at Brenham High School against the winner between Round Top-Carmine and Utopia, which played Tuesday night.

“Baily Dawson and Madison Sherrer did an outstanding job serving,” Cowgirls coach Darcy Stockton said. “And thanks to the amazing McMullen County fans, the girls were on fire Monday night and played a pretty flawless game.”

Senior Makinna Serrata led McMullen County with 14 kills and tied for the lead with two blocks.

Hallie Taylor had a team-high 10 assists for the Cowgirls.

Dawson had four aces and four kills on the night for McMullen County.

Sherrer had six aces and one block. Maria Ravara had six assists, two blocks and one kill.

Caroline McClaugherty did a little bit of everything for McMullen County, chipping in three assists, one ace and one kill on the night.
