McMullen Co. sends 11 to regional track meet

The McMullen County Cowboys and Cowgirls will have a chance to send a solid amount of athletes to the state track meet.

McMullen County advanced a total of 11 athletes to the Region IV-1A meet at the District 31/32- 1A area meet on Saturday, April 10, in Medina. The Cowgirls boast seven regional qualifiers, including their 1600-meter relay team. The Cowboys will be represented by four athletes at the regional meet in Webster near Houston.

Caina Sneed clinched a regional spot in three events. Sneed finished in third place in the high jump with a mark of 4-feet-6-inches and third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.91 seconds. She also ran in the 1600-meter relay (Sneed, Charity Harris, Dylan Dusek, Mackenzie Sherrer), which turned in a time of 4:35.63.

Harris will also compete in the 400-meter dash after finishing third with a time of 1:07.19.

Sianna Serrata took home second place in the 3200-meter run with a time of 13:22.87 to reach the regional meet. She finished fifth in the 800, just missing the fourth and final regional qualifying spot for the event.

Rylee Stendebach and Ryleigh Kuehlem each advanced to regionals in triple jump. Stendebach’s jump of 31-4.5 was good for third place. Kuehlem jumped 30-6.5 for fourth place.

Isaiah Billingsley will compete in three events at the regional meet. Billingsley won the 1600 and 3200 with times of 4:27.79 and 9:26.98, respectively. He also finished second in the 800 with a 2:02.50 finish.

Rudy Mesa is also advancing in the 1600 and 3200. He finished second in the 3200 with a time of 11:24.78. Mesa finished fourth in the 1600, clocking a 5:11.51.

Troy Allen claimed gold in triple jump with a winning jump of 42-1. He would also finish fourth in long jump, qualifying for regionals with a distance of 20-0.5.

Marshall Swaim was another Cowboy to advance in the field events. He finished fourth in pole vault with a height of 9-feet.

The Region IV-1A meet is scheduled for April 23- 24.
