This past week we held our city council meeting. During the meeting Atascosa County Judge Bob Hurley provided an electronic voting machine to conduct a demonstration on how it works. Several people in the audience stepped up to view someone go through the process. The council approved a few amendments to acouple of city ordinances. The council also approved a proposal to amend the “Junked Vehicle” ordinances. The proposal was forwarded to the staff and the city attorney for review and preparation to be submitted to the council as an amendment for approval. On Wednesday of this past week, I met with some potential business investors interested in bring business to our city. Also on Wednesday, I met with the Atascosa Emergency Management Coordinator to discuss a future Table Top Exercise involving our city. We hope to conduct the exercise sometime in November. On Thursday, I attend the Atascosa Citizens in Action Grant Committee meeting in Pleasanton. We discussed access to the Foundation Information Network for potential funds resources. On Friday I attended the Poteet Library Advisory Board (LAB) meeting. We discussed the next steps for the LAB. On Saturday I stopped by the O’Reilly’s store opening. I met with the new store manager and area director. O’Reilly plans to have its grand opening sometime in November. Also on Saturday, I attended the Methodist Health Fair in Jourdanton. I met with representatives of the Headstart program. They informed me they are aware of the need of the Headstart program in our city. I plan to look into the possibility of bringing this back to our community.
Also this past Thursday, there was a major water leak in our city. It occurred sometime around noon. The city crew worked diligently all afternoon in the extreme hot weather and late into the night without a break until the repair was completed around 1:30 AM. All our city employees are dedicated to providing services to our community. They earn and deserve respect for their performance.
This coming Saturday, there will be a Fun at the Park event at the Poteet Canyon Park. There will be water guns, water games, and food. There will be a dunking booth. Sometime during the event I will be in the booth. I invite everyone to come out to have some fun.
