Mayor’s Message – Poteet

On Oct. 21, I assisted the Alamo Area Council of Government (AACOG) in providing gift cards for Atascosa County at the Poteet Housing Authority. All the senior citizens who applied and met the criteria received a $200 Walmart gift card. Seventy-one senior citizens received gift cards from AACOG.

On Oct. 24, I had the honor of accepting and joining the Poteet JROTC Eagle Battalion on a National virtual 5k walk in support of ending Alzheimer’s disease. Poteet ISD Superintendent Charles Camarillo also participated in the event. I really enjoyed walking with a great group of students, Mr. Camarillo and Mr. Hilburn. The cadets presented me with a JROTC t-shirt which I wore proudly. Thank you, Poteet JROTC, for allowing metobeapartof your great organization. On Oct.25, my wife and I were the first ones to participate in the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center blood drive at the First Baptist Church in Poteet. The technicians working the blood drive informed me all the time slots were filled to donate blood. Thank you to all the donors for your special gift.

Halloween is coming this weekend. If your children are going to go out trickor treating, I encourage all to use safety precautions to prevent exposure not only to the coronavirus, but all contaminates. Regular flu season is upon us as well. We have done a great job in curtailing the spread in our community. Let us not get complacent now and cause a setback. Use face coverings, disinfect your hands often, especially after each contact with others or unsanitized surface areas.

Remember Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend. Move your clocks back one hour. (As if we needed one more hour in 2020!)

This is the last week for early voting. Next Tuesday, Nov. 3, is Election Day. All registered voters need to go vote to get their desired candidate elected to represent their voice.

Due to Election Day next week on Tuesday, Nov. 3, our regular city council meeting has been rescheduled to Nov. 10.
