This past week I participated in several commitments. The City Council had a special meeting to conduct an open public hearing for Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE). After closing the public hearing, the City Council approved a Resolution on Establishing the City PACE program and approved an interlocal agreement between the City of Poteet and Alamo Area Council of Government (AACOG) for the purpose of providing the program administration services needed to implement and administer the PACE program. I participated in an Atascosa County Small Business Networking in effort to recruit business to Poteet. This past Saturday, I helped at the SA Food Bank Distribution at the Poteet Strawberry Festival Grounds. SA Food Bank delivered, and the volunteers handed out approximately 36,000 lbs of food in about 5 hours. This was only possible because of the great teamwork of the volunteers. Among the volunteers were a great bunch of students from Poteet High School. Several groups were represented, including the Poteet Aggies football players, members of the Poteet Strawberry Festival court, members of the Rotary InterAct club, the Poteet LEOS club and others. I was waiting for a complete list of the different groups, but I didn’t receive in time for this article. If I get more names of the other groups, I will mention them in my next article. These kids made this event a great success. I encourage everyone who has a little time to volunteer at the next food distribution. A lot of volunteers are needed to distribute the food.
This Wednesday, I will be at the Poteet Housing Authority with AACOG handing out gift cards to qualified applicants. This Thursday, I will be attending the Atascosa County Candidate Forum sponsored by the Pleasanton Express at the Pleasanton River Park from 6-8pm. All the candidates that appear on the Atascosa County General Election ballots are invited to this candidate forum. This Saturday, I will be at the Poteet High School participating in a virtual 5K walk with the Poteet cadets of the Eagle Battalion JROTC Booster Club. This event is in support of ending Alzheimer’s.
Early voting has started in Texas. A lot is on the line. I encourage all registered voters to exercise your constitutional right to express your voice by voting for the candidate you believe will do the best job.
