The U.S. is going through a difficult time. There are some people legally demonstrating to rally support to their just cause of equality. Unfortunately, there are others (criminals) who are taking advantage of the situation to cause mayhem and destruction (looting/rioting/ assaulting innocent people). These individuals are hurting those who are trying to make a positive change. These criminals need to be addressed appropriately and held accountable for their illegal activity. Last week I met with Poteet Chief of Police Bruce Hickman to discuss Poteet Police Department’s use of force policy and training policy to ensure our police officers are aware of the policies. I reiterated to Chief Hickman that I expect our officers to perform their duties within the color of law without fear of public opinion. I believe our police department is doing well in protecting and serving our community. Our police department will strive to maintain order in our community.
Our city hall office is still undergoing construction in the lobby area. We hope it will be completed this week. As soon as it is completed, we will make a public announcement of the new procedures to conduct business at the office. The new procedures will be to better provide a safer environment to the public and our city employees. The freshwater project is well underway. We finally got all the required documentation processed and approved to authorize payments of the construction as it is completed on a monthly basis. As I mentioned before, approximately 7.5 miles of waterlines are going to be upgraded. The project is expected to go well into next year–summer time. You will see the construction crews working throughout the city.
The city will also continue to work on other projects to maintain the city services. I will continue to work on bringing more economic development to our community.
Please be safe and stay strong.
