Mayor’s Message – Poteet

It is unfortunate that the most important topic for everyone is the effect the pandemic virus has on us. Right before the school spring break started was the onset of the pandemic in our area. No one ever thought our lives were going to be affected so drastically. All our lives have been affected in one way or another, some more so than others. We had to make changes on how we conduct our daily activities from going shopping, seeking medical attention, going to work, continue education for ourselves and our children, and so many other things which were handled as a simple routine.

The city staff is eager to get back to some semblance of normalcy to provide our citizens access to the city office. The city staff and I are working on a plan to open the city office, municipal court and the library. However, until the pandemic’s threat to our society is minimized, the city will implement new guidelines, restrictions and procedures in our facilities in order to provide a safe environment for our citizens and employees. Along with the guidelines and procedures, there will be some modifications/remodeling done in the city hall office. As soon as we have all the details outlined, we will make them available to everyone. As for the city parks, because of the difficulty and lack of resources (manpower and cleaning supplies) in keeping them sanitary for everyone to use the equipment safely, for now, the parks will remain closed.

As I have mentioned before, our Poteet citizens have been doing a great job in curtailing the potential spread of the virus in our community. I know it has been difficult maintaining social distancing, constant sanitary procedures, wearing of facial covering (for those who do) and following the guidelines set by our government officials. All of these things are in place for our benefit and safety. Adaptability and constant innovation is key to survival. As I ask everyone to please continue to use safe practices in effort to prevent the potential spread of the virus and to help everyone stay healthy.

Thank you for your support and for all you do to help keep our community safe. Working together, our community will survive and become a stronger.
