Mayor’s Message – Poteet

Things have been a little crazy these past couple of weeks. I have been recovering from my shoulder surgery and dealing with the madness caused by the Coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic. I thank everyone for the many prayers and well wishes I received for my recovery.

I want to thank everyone who came out on Saturday night for our city’s first block party. Everyone seemed to enjoy the evening. The band, Texas Tone Rangers entertained everyone with a great performance of a variety of music. Everyone seemed at ease despite the concerns of COVID-9. We had precautionary sanitation stations available throughout the area for everyone to use. We hope to have another similar event later in the year.

As for COVID-19, the City of Poteet is actively monitoring and keeping abreast of the changing conditions surrounding COVID-19. Everyone needs to practice good hygiene procedures at home, at work and all public areas to help prevent/ reduce the contamination/ exposure to ALL germs. There is mass hysteria related to COVID-19 causing unnecessary shortage of basic foods and sanitary items. Everyone should remain calm. If you experience flu-like symptoms, please call your primary healthcare provider for guidance before going to the doctor’s office or any medical facility. High risk individuals should take extra care in avoiding potential exposure areas. That does not mean self-quarantine. Everyone should exercise good and not live in fear. Today I was at our local grocery store and I witnessed a good act of kindness and generosity. A couple purchased some baby formula to donate to needy families. In times like this we should lookout for one another.

Please be safe and use caution in your daily activity. The city will provide more information as it becomes available on city’s response regarding COVID-9.

Poteet people are strong and we will make it through this challenge.
