Mayor’s Message – Poteet

I had a few things on my schedule last week. I held a Head of Department staff meeting on Monday in preparation for the monthly council meeting. We went over all the agenda items for clarification. Later that afternoon, I met with the Poteet Jr. High School (PJHS) principal, Mrs. Poth, to discuss the Veterans Day ceremony held at the PJHS gym on Veterans Day. Mrs. Poth invited me to be the guest speaker at the ceremony. I accepted the invitation. On Wednesday morning, I met with the Poteet DAEP Principal Mr. Urbanowiez and his students. Later on Wednesday afternoon, I participated in a teleconference call with David Prasifka, Director of Atascosa County Emergency Management and Michelle Joseph, Soteria Solutions. We discussed the upcoming table top exercise (TTEX) of an incident in Poteet. I will provide more information after the completion of the TTEX. Also, later Wednesday afternoon, I met with the Poteet High School (PHS) Art teacher, Mrs. Olivares and the PHS Art Club to discuss the details on the upcoming city mural art project. So far on my schedule for this coming week, I will be participating in the TTEX and participating in a tour of the remodeled Atascosa County Jail.

This past weekend I received a call from J.B. Salazar, the owner/operator of our local radio station KSAQ FM 102.3. The radio station is having a problem experiencing interference on the same frequency from another radio station overpowering KSAQ. This is occurring just north of Poteet heading towards San Antonio. Mr. Salazar is asking if anyone who listens to KSAQ has experienced the loss of the KSAQ radio signal while going towards the San Antonio area, to please contact the radio station at 210-355- 2627 as soon as possible. Mr. Salazar has a deadline to submit the required supporting documentation to the FCC.

I want to let you know there is going to be a Turkey Trot 2 mile run/walk event at the Poteet Strawberry Festival grounds on November 23. There is an $8 fee to register for the event. The first 50 paid registrants who complete the run/walk will receive a finisher’s medal and be eligible for some drawing giveaways after the event. Must be present to receive the giveaway. Forms for the event can be picked up and returned at the Cricket Store on HWY 16 in Poteet and at the Poteet Public Library. If you want more information please send an email to tricityroadwarriors@gmail.com or call/text 830-276-0837.

See you at the meeting, if not, maybe around town.
