Mayor’s Message – Poteet

On Halloween, the city held a Halloween costume contest at the Poteet Library. There was a good turnout, a lot of children came out in cute costumes. The winners were notified via phone. We plan to do it again next year, hopefully bigger and better.

We are in the last two months of the year. There will be a lot of holiday events happening in the cities in our county. Our city will have a few events as well. As in previous years, on different dates, there will be a Blue Santa parade and a Santa at the fire department handing out goodies to the children. This year, our city will have a Christmas tree lighting event. The Poteet High School band and some carolers will be performing Christmas music. The Poteet Elementary School students will be creating ornaments for the tree. Santa will be making an appearance to talk to the children and for photo opportunities. Anyone wishing to donate ornaments or lights for the tree or other decorations can drop them off at the city hall. We appreciate the community’s support.

We finally had a change of weather. The cool temperatures are welcomed. Now is a good time to winterize your exposed waterlines before hard freezing temperature hit our area. Inspect your home gas heaters to ensure they work and gas lines for any possible leaks and also check the electrical power cords on your electric heaters and check your central heating systems. Let’s all have a safe winter season.

There will be a lot of festivities/parties going on during the next couple of months. Please remember drink responsibly, don’t drink and drive.

See you at the meeting, if not maybe around town.

WILLIE LEAL is the Mayor of Poteet. You may E-mail him at mayor@poteettexas. gov.

As a visitor to your town, I see alot of stray dogs on the roads and schools. What is the town doing to help the stray dogs? What are the laws in this town for this type of issue. More importantly, What can I do to help? Please advise.
