This past week was full of activity. On Monday I attended a presentation in Pleasanton where U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar presented a $450,000.00 grant to Safer Path Family Violence Shelter to assist their clients to transition from the center to their own living quarters. The grant will help pay 30 clients’ rent for six months plus other support.
On Tuesday, I read and signed a Proclamation for Safer Path Family Violence Shelter. As Mayor of Poteet, I offered the city’s support to Safer Path’s mission and to its clients. The City of Poteet has zero tolerance on family/domestic violence. Also on Tuesday, the City of Poteet along with the Poteet Police Association organized the National Night Out event in our city. There was a large attendance of both adults and children. The children enjoyed the many activities, i.e. hay ride, moon jump, facing painting and a lot of free goodies provided by many of the supporters.
On Wednesday, the City department heads conducted interviews for the Community Event Coordinator. The City will make the announcement on the selection next week.
This week, I, along with a couple of council members and some of the city department heads will be attending a Texas Municipal League annual conference in San Antonio. There will be numerous training sessions available throughout the three conferences. Upon completion of the conference, I will provide an update of the sessions I attended.
This Saturday, October 12, 2019, the TriCity Road Warriors and the Poteet Rotary Club are hosting a Harvest Hustle 5K run & 1 Mile walk in conjunction with the Rotary’s Farmers’ Market at the Poteet Strawberry Festival grounds in Poteet.
