This past week was a little busy. On Tuesday, I swore in a new reserve police officer for Poteet. Officer Alan Perez is a recent graduate of the Alamo Area Regional Law Enforcement Academy. Officer Perez will be on training status for several hours before he will be patrolling our city streets on his own. When you see Officer Perez, please welcome him to our community. On Wednesday, I participated in a ceremony at the Atascosa County Courthouse to remember and honor the victims of the terrorist attack on 9/11/01. Afterwards, I attended the Poteet Rotary meeting and then went to the Poteet city office. On Thursday, I attended a meeting of the Local Emergency Planning Committee. We discussed the upcoming table top exercise involving the city of Poteet. Later that afternoon, I met with the Poteet High School Art Club. We are working together on a project to help beautify our downtown area. On Friday, I swore in another reserve police officer for Poteet. Officer Hunter Saenz is a four year veteran police officer from Floresville. Officer Saenz will be on a short training status before he goes solo on our streets. When you see Officer Saenz, please welcome him to our community. On Saturday, the city had a community garage sale at the Poteet Canyon Park, 22 people signed up, only a handful showed up to display their wares. Also on Saturday, my wife and I participated in Pleasanton Cowboy Homecoming Parade. We were proud to represent our city in the parade. We had a good time greeting the spectators along the parade route.
Last week, the city published a job announcement for a full-time position titled Community Event Coordinator. This position will include more than coordinating events for the city. It will include researching and applying for grants for different city projects among other duties. Anyone interested in applying for the position needs to call the Poteet City Office by Friday, September 20 for information.
See you at the meeting, if not maybe around town.
