Mayor’s Message – Poteet

Eighteen years ago on September 11, 2001 our country was a victim of a horrendous, cowardly terrorist act of war. This attack by a foreign enemy was the first time on American soil since the attack on Pearl Harbor, another horrendous, cowardly act of war. Since 9/11/01 our lives as American citizens living not only in the U.S. but anywhere in the world has not been the same. That attack made an impact on most Americans on the way they think about our country’s security and their own personal safety; the way most Americans live their day to day lives and affected how Americans rear their children here and abroad. Everyone’s life has been affected in one way or another. I know it had a significant impact on me and my family. As an Army veteran and law enforcement officer (retired), I had a different prospective and feelings about the attack on 9/11. I felt (still do) this was a direct attack on my family and me.

I don’t believe this is the appropriate venue to express my personal political views or religious opinions. As an American I ask all Americans to never forget what happen on 9/11, never forget who the individuals represented that carried out the attack and why they did what they did. Most importantly we should never forget the individuals who lost their lives and their family members and the heroes who saved so many countless lives.

We must continue to be vigilant to guard ourselves and our country to prevent another attack on our homeland (and ourselves) from both foreign and domestic terrorists.

God Bless America.
