Mayor’s Message – Pleasanton

Greetings from the Mayor’s office: I hope this column finds you and your family in good health and continuing to do what you can to prevent the spread of COVID 19. As for me and Linda, we will continue to wear a mask until a vaccine is available. We have listened to the health experts from the beginning of this pandemic and firmly believe that the mask is our No. 1 defense against the virus. With that said, our numbers remain low here in Pleasanton and that spells a big THANKS to all of you. I will continue to say that this city and county has some of the wisest people on the planet and our numbers have reflected this for the past seven months.

I was recently asked by one of our citizens if the city is going to “allow us” to celebrate Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year. My answer is always the same and it’s not meant to be facetious, but no government has the right to tell us whether we can or how we observe any holiday. I think even during a pandemic, we still have the right to celebrate as long as we celebrate responsibly and observe any mandates or guidelines. The bottom line is that COVID-19 numbers are increasing in some areas of the state, so let’s continue to “use our head” when gathering and celebrating.

With that said, be sure and check out the Pleasanton Express for upcoming activities, not only in this city, but other areas, including Merry on Main. I can’t imagine going through one week without reading our local newspaper which is full of information that is factual and informative. We are mighty proud to have Noel and her gang as a part of our community. Until next week, be sure to vote, stay healthy and best regards.
