Mayor’s Message – Pleasanton

Greetings from the Mayor’s office: I usually write this column on Monday of each week, but waited till Tuesday afternoon, so I could hear what Governor Abbott had to say about this “foolishness” of defunding city police departments. Yes, I have been asked by an individual or two as to when Pleasanton is going to defund our PD. What I told them was something my dad would always say in these situations, “that ain’t gonna happen.” And now, those city leaders who want to follow in Austin’s footsteps, in defunding their police departments, will have their ability to raise property taxes frozen. A “gold star” for our Governor and Lt. Governor for taking steps to prevent this “DEFUNDING NONSENSE” and showing some grit.

On a lighter note, I’m so glad to see the rain this week. The official rain total from our airport showed .82 of an inch on Monday evening. Of course, depending on where you measure, you could have more or less. But, whatever you measured, it was mighty welcome and especially during the month of August. It’s a good time to shut off those sprinkler systems for a while and conserve some water.

Be sure and take a look in this week’s Pleasanton Express for new guidelines from the Center For Disease Control concerning COVID-19. I think the CDC has simplified the process of what to do in the battle of COVID exposure, testing and quarantine time. The new guidelines came out on Monday of this week and the city started following immediately. Our numbers in this city continue to remain low and, again, thanks for doing your part to help prevent the spread of the virus. Until next week, best regards and good health.
