Mayor’s Message – Pleasanton

Greetings from the Mayor’s office: Do you believe the numbers? Do you trust the numbers? The numbers I’m referring to are the COVID numbers we receive on a daily basis from the Department of State Health Services. If you do or don’t … these are the only numbers we have to give you and keep you updated on the active/recovered/deaths in this city. On a day-to-day basis, sometimes the numbers seem to be a bit confusing. I understand that DSHS is behind the “eight ball” with counting cases for the entire state and this is why we receive recovered cases from time to time, even before they are counted as active. Simply put, people are recovering before the State has time to disseminate them as active. Whether you think the numbers are correct or not, we will continue to give you what we receive in our Emergency Operations Center. And from time to time, DSHS will include a new category for active cases which sometimes is confusing and confuses our count balance with the county. Thanks to Don Penny and Philip Glass for balancing the numbers daily so we can give you updated and accurate numbers concerning COVID-19. And by the way, don’t become one of the active numbers. Be smart and do all you can to prevent the contact and spread of the virus.

On another note, we are finalizing the route and stops in our city for the Cowboy Connect transportation program. Looking forward to getting this program rollin’. More news on this coming in the near future. By the way, the walking trails are open in the River Park and Sports Complex off of Hwy. 476, by the city pool. And keep in mind, the parks are closed to vehicular traffic and all other park facilities are closed also. Come out and get some exercise. Until next week, stay safe and stay well.
