Mayor’s Message – Pleasanton

Greetings from the Mayor’s office: We have had our hands full the past week or so trying to catch up on mowing and shredding in the city. City personnel are working daily to get this done and I have made it a top priority until completed.

The Riverpark splash pad, skate park and children’s playgrounds are up and running and I am pleased to see so many in the park. Linda and I have been there daily, sometimes more than once, to see the children and adults having the time of their life. The zip line has become popular and the kids keep it going non-stop most of the day as well as the splash pad, and yes, the water from the splash pad is being piped to the waste water plant for recycling. I have met folks in the park from San Antonio, Seguin, Jourdanton, Poteet, Charlotte, and of course, have seen many familiar faces from our city. And the park renovation continues.

In my past columns, I have talked about our Fire Department and the great work they do and unfortunately, the decreasing numbers of volunteer firefighters. We are now looking at a compensation program for the volunteer fire fighters that will compensate them for responding to a fire as well as compensation for attending meetings and training. I think this is a wonderful idea and will be explored further.

I will be at City Hall for my Monday afternoon session on the 15th to hear concerns. I will be out on the 22nd and back on the 29th. The time…..1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Have a great week and best regards.
